Some of the most important lessons in horsemanship arrive disguised as discomfort.

A new environment that makes us realize how much we still have to learn. An opportunity that looks far different than we imagined. A moment that humbles us just enough to become open to growth.

Fox and Rumor are each otherโ€˜s emotional support buddies, and I am here to support each of them on their individual journeys.

Right now for Fox, that looks like 30 minutes of tack walking five or six days per week, so weโ€™ve started to work on basic steering, stopping, and backing in a neck rope. it will be a few months until we can add anything else, so this is giving us a way to make our day to day a little interesting for both of us.

For Rumor, this past weekend, he got to be a dressage pony. At hone, he will go back to his liberty skills and some western work as well. Iโ€™m very lucky to have a pony to play in all the disciplines with.

Itโ€™s interesting to be riding these waves of change, while also trying to keep some goals in mindโ€ฆ. some days are easier than others, like these past few days with my friends and horses.โค๏ธ

When I went to get Rumor ready for our second test today, he was laying down. I asked him to rise and shine, and he responded by laying flat out. He thought that scratching and getting a scratch was a better plan, and I agreed.

Rumor laid there while I took out his braids, and then he took a two hour nap. His baby brain and body had given so much over the last three days and the two weeks leading upโ€ฆ. there was nothing more I could ask of him.

Thank you, Rumor, for stepping up and filling in. You are a pure breed good boy. โค๏ธ.

This is not post I expected to be writing or the weekend that I expected to be having, but here we are...

After 10 months of careful rehab and 9 months of successful progress, Fox is back to rehab. The current consensus is that he has exacerbated his prior intersesamoidial ligament injury, and that his path to recovery will likely be longer this time than last. I've been reeling from this abrupt change in our path for a couple of weeks now, grieving the loss of what I thought was our comeback season, and adjusting my plans for the future. Not going to lie, it's kicking my butt pretty hard.

This fresh revelation meant that Rumor and Fox got to switch places this weekend at GMHA. Fox got to go and cheer his buddy on instead of the other way around, and Rumor got to participate in his very first horse show ever. What a dude.

This little guy has risen to every occasion I've presented him. Today, on his very first time ever stepping foot inside a dressage arena, he won both of his tests, and he earned the highest score of any open training level test. What more could I possibly ask for?

For now, what I can do is keep loving my ponies and taking the next small step forward with each of them. We will see what tomorrow brings. โค๏ธ

I received a pair of gloves from FiTST4 Sports, and though they are for cold weather riding, I was excited to check them out.

They are not too thick, have a really secure velcro closure, a warm fleece lining, and are cell phone screen compatible. Iโ€™m definitely not anywhere near ready for cooler weather yet, but at least I know my hands will be warm when it comes around again!
