The Green Mountain Speedskating Club began in the 1970s. Its mission was to develop and introduce beginner skaters to a recreational and competitive level. The club practices at Spartan Arena and Lake Placid at various times. Several club skaters have gone on to medal in short track and long track events. Short track takes place on hockey rinks, while long track on a 400 meter oval. The Green Mountain Club has produced National Championships on long track. The club is sanctioned through U.S. Speedskating and has certified coaching. The club is always looking for new members. If interested contact Spartan Arena and ask for Dave Manfredi. On Sunday, we celebrated our amazing Coach Dave and his retirement from his position as operations manager at Spartan Arena! Not to worry, he will still be coaching speedskating! Tom Haley, sports writer for the Rutland Herald, did a wonderful tribute article to Dave and his years at the rink. It is in today’s print version, and here’s the link to the digital version:

RUTLAND TOWN — Dave Manfredi, Operations Manager of Spartan Arena, was trying to come to grips with his last day on the job on Friday.

Well, we sure didn’t “stay out” 😆

Masters Speedskating camp in Lake Placid was fun, challenging, and HOT, with camaraderie and silliness too. Green Mountain was well represented this year, with Coach David Manfredi, Carvel Bevans, and Chip K and me! What a great way to spend three beautiful summer days!

More photos and video to come.

Eleven countries, 139 skaters…three days of international-level competition is so draining, we’re just getting to the post-meet update now 😆 MIST 2025 in Drummondville was a whirlwind of skating, friendship, inclusion and unwavering support for one another. What fun to reconnect with our friends from other clubs (more photos to come)!

Coach Dave finished #2 in his age group, snagging four amazing silver medals and representing the USA and Green Mountain on the podium! The Green Mountain banner was even flying in the arena! Danica had some good races and while there were no medals for her, she accomplished several personal goals and finished strong. What an incredibly successful meet for our little club!
