Alexander Alvarez is a sweet loving nine-year-old energetic kid full of life. As he goes through life with an old soul, he was diagnosed with cancer at six years of age. After having beat cancer and he rang that beautiful bell in November 2021, we were all devastated when in February 2022, Alex had to be rushed to the ER, not knowing what was wrong. He lost vision in his right eye, and the right side of his face was paralyzed. A few days later, we were told Alex had cancer again- he had a relapse.

This time around the journey has been more difficult, different and emotionally taxing. We ended up being transferred to CHOP for treatment after a month of chemotherapy. He underwent twelve rounds of radiation for the eye.

Thankfully Alex was fortunate enough to be able to qualify for T-cell immunotherapy. This is a process where his own T- cells are removed and then sent to a lab for processing. The purpose is for the transformed T cells to mimic the cancer cells. Once transferred back to the body the purpose of the new T cells is to fight any leukemia cells that are still in the body. Currently, Alex is awaiting the introduction of the T cells back in the body.

Alex, through all the treatments, has never stopped smiling and fighting. He has a deep love for Taekwondo and playing the piano.

At the end of it all, Alexander is still a typical nine year old kid that enjoys watching wrestling a lot and riding his bike and has an appreciation for life.
