Serving as Rutherford County’s connective link, the 13.58 mile, 12 feet wide, Thermal Belt Rail Trail corridor weaves through the community of Gilkey as well as the four quaint downtowns of Ruth, Rutherfordton, Spindale and Forest City uniting communities, tourism destinations and historic sites for all levels of enjoyment. The Thermal Belt Rail Trail is a scenic greenway lined with trees and views which residents and visitors can use for walking, running, biking, and strolling with young children.
