We often get asked, “Why do they spend SO much time at dance? I could never.”
And as their coach, my answer is simple:
You don’t have to. But these dancers do. And they choose to. ❤️
Because competitive dance has never been just about dance.
Look at their schedule. 🩰
After spending nearly 8 hours a day, 5 days a week at school, some of our dancers turn around and spend up to another 16 hours every week inside the studio.
And for the dancers who assist with our younger classes? Even more.
That can add up to nearly 850 hours a year—and that doesn’t include competition weekends, performances, extra rehearsals, stretching and practicing at home, photoshoots, conventions, travel, or all the other things that come with being a competitive dancer.
As coaches, we see the part most people don’t.
We see them walk into practice tired after a long day at school and still give us everything they have.
We see them do the same combination over and over because “almost” isn’t what they’re working toward.
We see the frustration when a skill won’t click, the tears when they’re disappointed in themselves, and the determination when they get back up and try it again.
We see them learn how to take corrections, be accountable, work as a team, celebrate someone else’s success, and keep pushing even when nobody is handing them a trophy.
Dance is teaching them work ethic.
Dance is teaching them discipline.
Dance is teaching them responsibility.
Dance is teaching them commitment.
Dance is teaching them resilience.
But most importantly, competitive dance teaches them something they’ll carry long after they take their final bow:
Dreams don’t come true simply because you love something or because you’re talented.
They require sacrifice.
They require consistency.
They require showing up.
They require doing the work when it’s hard, when you’re tired, and when you don’t feel like it.
So when someone asks us, “Why do they spend so much time at dance?”
This is why. ❤️
We aren’t just coaching dances.
We aren’t just preparing routines for a competition stage.
We’re helping shape the people these dancers are becoming.
And getting a front-row seat to watch them grow—not only as dancers, but as strong, hardworking, dedicated young people—is one of the greatest privileges of being their coach.
The hours are long. The commitment is huge. The expectations are high.
But watching them realize what they’re capable of?
Worth. Every. Single. Minute. 🩰❤️
Same dancers. Bigger dreams. And we’re just getting started. 💗
