September 1st to October 15th is the best time of the year to aerate and overseed your lawn. I would like to offer this service to you at an affordable price. Aeration and overseeding is a vital step to having a green, thick, and healthy lawn. This is also the best defense in fighting off those unwanted w**ds that overtake your lawn.
What is aeration? Lawn aeration involves the removal of small soil plugs or cores out of the lawn. Aeration is done mechanically with a machine having hollow tines or spoons mounted on a disk or drum. Core aerator extracts 1/2 to 3/4 inch diameter cores of soil and deposits them on your lawn. Aeration holes are typically 1-5 inches deep and 6 inches apart. Other types of aerators push solid spikes or tines into the soil without removing a plug (spiking). These are not as effective because they can contribute to compaction. I use core aeration and core aeration is the recommended lawn care practice for your type of lawn.
What is overseeding? Overseeding is the process of spreading 4-6 pounds of grass seed to your existing lawn for every 1,000 square feet. For example, if you have a 10,000 square foot lawn, I will spread 40-60 pounds of seed over the entire lawn. Cool season grasses (your grass type) require overseeding every 1 – 2 years. If you have not overseeded your lawn in recent years, it’s likely your lawn would benefit from this practice. Here are 3 reasons to overseed your lawn. 1. Fill in those empty and bare areas in your lawn. 2. Grass dies over time like any other plant, so it needs to be replaced. 3. A thick lawn is less likely to have those unwanted w**ds.
