I'm guessing they were getting ready to wrap her up for winter. She was docked on the Ohio River and my parents spent almost every weekend on her in the summer. Mom & Dad had planned to move to Florida when he retired. They had bought a lot in Steinhatchee on the river. Although he had already started shopping in Yankeetown cause it's a few degrees warmer. They were going to bring the boat down th
e Ohio to the Tom Big Bee waterway and out at Mobile Alabama and down to the west coast of Florida. They had traveled the route by road and had every stop planned and charted. Dad passed away before they could carry out their adventure. I was born and raised on the water, fresh and salt. The house I grew up in was on Mosquito Creek Lake, facing west with great sunsets. It's just a part of who I am. Most evenings were spent with the 3 of us watching the sun set and discussing the day's events. My parents had a rare and special relationship. Don and I spent almost 6 years hunting for this spot. I dragged him through so many trashed foreclosure properties all over the Tampa Bay Area. There were some we might have needed a hazmat suit. I would have been happy with a glimpse of water. Then we found this spot. We knew the only way we could afford it was to do it our selves. It's hot, we are tired, we live in an old camper and at the moment are unemployed. But, we are doing this, building our dream and working well together. Almost done and haven't had one disagreement. I'm so thankful for my husband and best friend who is making my dream a reality and dedicating it to the memory of my parents. And that is the back story of Southern Comfort Cottage.
