It's race week!
Here is a simple race-week plan focused on what matters most: sleep, fueling, and logistics.
1. In the Days Before (Todayā2 days out)
No hard workouts. Youāre not going to gain fitness now, only risk fatigue.
Do 1ā2 short āopenerā rides- Last opener should be 1ā2 days before the race.
Sleep
Aim for 7ā9 hours per night.
Prioritize two nights before the race even more than the night before (pre-race nerves are normal).
Nutrition & Hydration
Eat normally but slightly carbāheavier (rice, pasta, potatoes, oats, fruit, bread).
Keep protein and veggies in, just donāt overdo heavy/fatty foods that might upset your stomach.
Hydrate steadily: water + some electrolytes, especially if itāll be warm.
Bike & Gear Check (at least 1ā2 days out)
Tires: Check for cuts, set pressure appropriate for terrain and your weight.
2. Day Before the Race:
Familiar foods: moderateālarge carb portion, moderate protein, lowāmoderate fat.
Examples: Pasta with light sauce and chicken; rice, lean meat, and veggies; baked potato + protein.
Avoid: New or spicy foods & Huge, heavy, or very fatty meals.
3. Morning of the Race
Aim to: Eat breakfast 2ā3 hours before.
Breakfast: Carbs you know work well; low fiber, moderate protein, low fat.
Sip water or light electrolyte drink; donāt overāchug.
PreāRace Snack: 30ā45 min before start: small, quick carb (half an energy bar, banana, or a gel with water) if youāre used to it.
*Make sure you arrive to the venue 1-1.5 hours BEFORE start time!
