For the artist, the finished piece is not the goal
For the artist, there is no goal. There is only the
beautiful moment of being in the process itself
Without the process, there is only grief; it is this
grief that is the impetus for the evolution of the
art and the artist. Without the art, the artist's soul
withers. This is how it is for me. The paradox, of
course... the act of creating leads to calmer
states of being, of aliveness; of quiet joy. Grief, in
fractions, will be transformed; transcended. I
find myself; you will find yourself, in an ineffable,
energetic, creative flow...if you will only let
yourself Be.

I took this after taking a pilates class with my son, Daniel. He's owned a pilates studio, Studio Blue PDX, in Portland, OR for 17 years. Pilates is a fabulous way to lengthen & tone muscles. I was doing pilates long before I knew it was pilates! I'm 60ish here. This is the mat room in Daniel's studio.

Every action you take counts toward your fitness goals. It's not about spending arduous hours in the gym, unless you want to, of course. NEAT...Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenics...is the energy you extend for everything you do that is not sleeping, eating, or sports-like exercise. It all counts. Good news!

I believe every action you take toward your goal, no matter how small, will lead to obtaining the results you desire. It can't not work!

As a "lived experience" coach in the areas of chronic illness, pain, and weight gain/loss, I adopted healthy lifestyle patterns which have served me over the years. Exercise (mostly) healthy diet, meditation, writing, and creating sculpture has changed my life in myriad ways.

My model of health coaching is holistic. it espouses the interconnectedness of each modality to create whole body-mind wellness. Fitness, Nutrition, Behavior (Mindset) Modification, Trigger Point Therapy, Yoga (including Meditation), as you wish, all play a role in creating the healthier, happier life you desire.

Books are part of my heart💛. My initial foray into health & wellness began with books. The Internet was in its infant stage then. It began when I was 37. I had quit smoking and gained 25 pounds—10 of which I needed. At that time in my life, I never had a weight issue— as in weight gain. I was a busy mother of 3—15, 4, and 3). I had dealt with some depression also, thus the weight loss. . Being an athlete for most of my life to that point, weight was never an issue. There is also a genetic component, for sure. So, I began resesrching weight loss/weight gain. In the beginning, the books that were popular were not scientifically evidence-based. I didn't realize that. Because of this, I devoured a lot of bad information and bad good lol. I wasn't eating in a healthy way. I wasn't working out in a healthy way. So through more books, better books; trial and error, I was able to achieve my goals. I even surpassed my goals. You don't know what you don't know. There were many nice surprises. I kept reading. I kept practicing what I read. I learned how to gather evidence-based information. I kept going. I gained quite a library—maybe 1000 books. Over the last 10 years, I've had to give away 4 or 5 hundred books only due to downsizing homes. I would have kept them otherwise, I'm sure!

Far back to the beginning
of the union which created my
existence,
I began my
life...
a life like any other.
I was a human
being
with a body and a mind.
I used my mind to
think and
my body to
do,
and I
grew.
I learned many things
as most humans do.
I learned to walk, to talk,
to give and take;
to love and
hate.
I learned to laugh and
cry,
to questions; ask
Why?!
I've enjoyed good times;
endured bad.
Been mad and
been had.
I've used good judgment,
poor judgment
and all in between.
Been framed, blamed,
maimed;
unnamed...
Till one day
caught in a downward
Spiral
I lingered for long.
In the dread of
despair;
the darkness of
disillusion,
I asked the questions
which begged for
Answers...
"Who am I?!"
"What the hell
am I here for?!"
People/things
came to me...
"It is all just a
dream...
a captivating, enthralling
dream!
You are not only
the flesh and bone
of your
existence.
You are not
the endless chatter
of your
mind.
Listen...
Your purpose is
Grand!
The dream of suffering
has brought you
to the Edge of the
Dawn.
Do not be afraid.
Zen has said,
when the student is
ready
the Teacher will
appear.
Your readiness is
