Sigma Gamma Rho offers its members opportunities to develop their unique talents through leadership training and involvement in sorority activities. Sorority activities provide an atmosphere where friendships and professional contacts are developed which often lead to bonds that last a lifetime. On July 12, 2014, Mu Beta Sigma Chapter received the charge to provide Greater Service to Round Rock, TX and surrounding communities. The Charter members are Sorors Maureen Oyiriaru, Virginia Pearson, Mina Hill, Eva Marlene King, Venice Taylor, Tawanda McCall, Shanea McGee and Jennifer Beckford. The members of Mu Beta Sigma pledge to continue the legacy of our seven founders to serve as dynamic pillars of the community and servant leaders. We offer our members opportunities to serve the community and develop their unique talents through leadership training, community service, and involvement in social activities. Throughout the year activities provide an atmosphere where friendships and professional networks are developed which can lead to bonds that last a lifetime.

Happy Juneteenth!!!

We Remember, We Rise

Juneteenth is more than a date, it is a powerful reminder of resilience, freedom, and the ongoing pursuit of progress. As women of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., we honor the sacrifices of those who came before us while continuing to uplift our communities and create pathways for future generations.

Freedom is our foundation. Progress is our purpose.

As we commemorate Juneteenth, consider these meaningful ways to honor its legacy:
Give Back – Engage in service initiatives that make a lasting impact and support the needs of your community.

Invest with Purpose – Support Black-owned businesses, entrepreneurs, and organizations that contribute to economic empowerment and growth.

Learn and Lead – Reflect on the history and significance of Juneteenth, share that knowledge with others, and participate in conversations that inspire understanding and action.

Together, we remember the past, celebrate the present, and continue the work of building a more equitable future for all.

💙Soror Kimberly Wicks 💛

Before we exit the month of May, I want to bring awareness to Brain Cancer Awareness Month. This month has taken on an entirely new meaning for me as someone caring for a loved one diagnosed with brain cancer; to be exact it's Glioblastoma.

Glioblastoma an aggressive brain tumor that, for many, comes with a very short life expectancy. Symptoms include: frequent headaches, seizures, progressive muscle weakness, and sudden changes in cognitive function, mood, or speech.

Being a caregiver is not for the weak. In my case, this is something that I did not ask for ( who would) and it was very unexpected.

Caregiving to me means showing up every single day, putting on a brave face when inside you are exhausted, uncertain, scared, and carrying anticipatory grief because you do not know what the future holds.

This journey has taught me the true meaning of strength, love, patience, and faith. I must say that I am honored to be able to care for my mother. It’s not easy and when this is all over with I can say that she was well taken care of and that she knows that she was loved.

Please continue spreading awareness, supporting research, and praying for healing and comfort for those who have loved ones with glioblastoma.
