Tornado Judo! There was a tornado that touched down less than 2 miles from us, which caused a ton of damage in the area. Luckily we only lost power for about 45 minutes. My emergency lighting kicked on, so we just kept on training.
Thank God it didn't hit us during class. I am.truly grateful.
Ultimately... I was not scared or afraid at all. I was at peace. I was in a place I love, doing what I love with my kids and the students that showed up.
If it was destined to be my time to go, then I would have gone doing what I love.
Thank everyone for the texts, DMs, and calls checking on us. You are very much appreciated.

Harai-Goshi (sweeping hip)! My absolute FAVORITE technique! It's so easy to turn someone upside-down with this one.
Here is me and Mr French working during a private lesson. We were working an advanced entry in to Harai-Goshi. As with most techniques, when done right, their size and weight feel like nothing. Mr French is 60lbs pure muscle heavier than me. I had no problems at all.
Good technique. Good body mechanics. Good control. This is our focus when training.
If you are using speed and power to execute a technique in practice, then you're doing it wrong. If your instructor tells you more speed and power to execute a technique in practice, then they likely don't really understand how the technique works and the physics behind it.

No classes all day. I will be back out at the UT Systems Police Academy working with another awesome group of cadets.

Happy Birthday Texas! March 2, 1836!
The only state in the United States that was it's own country before joining the US and still has the right to secede and become it's own country again.
We can fly our flag at the same height as the American flag.

Thin Blue Line Open Mat at the TX DPS (Dept. Of Public Safety) HQ! For non Law Enforcement, it's by invitation only.
It's always an honor to be invited. This time, the invites only went to myself and one other individual who is a BJJ Black Belt.
The goal is to work with who ever is there and to help them grow and be comfortable in their skills as well as expose vulnerabilities in those who need more training. We're not there to win, beat anyone up, or have an ego.
This go around, the current class of cadets, approximately 70, were brought in to play too.
To all those who showed up. You were AWESOME and keep training when ever you can. It may very well save your life.

Another First Responder Sunday in the books. This was a snapshot from what was left of us doing some Ne-Waza (ground fighting).
We had some DPS Cadets show up for some additional work, which was fantastic.
As always, everyone was great!
People can talk about doing whatever in situations or think they know how to do x because they are watching videos, but the reality is... only time on the mat matters.
So... get in to the Dojo and get quality consistent training that will work towards your personal objectives.
