Shiroi-Wa-Yagi (mountain goat) during Shiai Ne-Waza (free sparring ground)!
This should be part of the Sensei Life series because it's something that I play with during Shiai Ne-Waza because it's funny as well.
I try to get completely off the ground and fully on top of my partner, then try and balance as they roll and try to get me off of them. It SUCKS if you are the one on the receiving end.
I typically yell "Mountain Goat!" when I do it. Haha
It's something goody I do when working and playing with students. If I think they can't handle it physically or mentally, I won't do it. It's to get a laugh and break up the roll.
In the Dojo, I want for us to have fun and enjoy the training. Yes, we do get serious, go hard, and play rough. We do that when there's a level of trust between us knowing that we are not actually going to try and hurt or injure each other.
Training safety is number 1 to me. Students get hurt and there's fewer training partners as well as them losing their training time and growth. Because of this students take a specific route when it comes to fighting.
We don't just open it up for a free for all because that's where bad things happen. Advanced students fighting with lower belts can only do what we have taught them up to that point. If the lower belt steps outside of the box with a technique, then the upper belt gets to step outside of the box. Typically after that, everyone goes back in to the box.
If you are looking to train in a safe, friendly, and sanitized environment, then come and see me.
