We have had a few people who use mapmyride reach out with difficulties importing the gpx file. We created the courses using caltopo. Caltopo and garmin are working fine, caltopo and Gaia are working and caltopo and AllTrails are working “as in accepting the gpx downloads and imports booths way” unfortunately we as individuals do not utilize every platform or device and simply are unable to aid like tech support. Ultimately, we suggest emailing support for the device or platform you wish to use if you are having issues as we can only say the gpx files work with what we can check them on. Google suggestions below because we dig into this just like you do 🤷♂️.
Google tip “1. Check the GPX file content:
GPX (GPS Exchange Format) is a standard format for GPS units and should contain coordinates, waypoints, tracks, and routes.
It's possible your CalTopo GPX file contains information MapMyRide doesn't recognize, which might cause import issues.
You can view the contents of the GPX file using a text editor to see what information it contains.
2. Check for file size or data limitations:
If the GPX file is very large or contains a lot of data, it might cause problems during import.
CalTopo suggests that if you accidentally import too much data, you may not be able to open the map again, suggesting a potential issue with large files.
3. Try converting the GPX file:
Some users have suggested using online tools like GPSVisualizer.com to convert the GPX file, potentially adding elevation data or resolving compatibility issues.
You can upload your GPX file to GPSVisualizer.com, select "Convert to GPX", click "[+] show advanced options", select "best available source" under "Add DEM elevation data", and convert.
4. Consider the origin of the GPX file:
If the GPX file was recorded on a GPS device and imported into CalTopo, it might be different from a CalTopo "track" created within the app, potentially causing import issues in other platforms like MapMyRide.
5. Seek specific platform support:
If the issue persists, you might need to contact the support teams for both CalTopo and MapMyRide to get further assistance tailored to their respective platforms.
