Well said.
Tuesday Tune Up
From Burnout to Balance: Finding Purpose Again
Last week we spoke honestly about burnout — the kind that doesn’t come from one bad game or one long weekend, but from years of caring, committing, and showing up.
This week is about what comes next.
Burnout doesn’t mean it’s time to walk away. Often, it’s a sign that something needs to shift — not our passion for polocrosse, but how we carry it.
Balance in our sport doesn’t mean doing less because we don’t care. It means doing things in a way that’s sustainable — for our bodies, our families, our horses, and ourselves.
For players, balance might look like:
• Focusing on progress rather than perfection
• Listening to your body and your horse
• Letting one bad game go instead of carrying it all season
For parents and volunteers, balance might be:
• Saying yes where you can — and no where you need to
• Sharing the load instead of carrying it alone
• Remembering that your presence matters just as much as your output
For coaches, officials, and leaders, balance means:
• Setting clear expectations
• Creating supportive environments
• Leading with understanding, not pressure
And then there’s purpose.
Purpose is the reason balance matters. It’s the reminder that polocrosse isn’t meant to take everything from us — it’s meant to add something.
We play for the moments that don’t show on the scoreboard:
A junior’s first confident ride.
A teammate backing you after a tough game.
A horse that gives you everything and trusts you completely.
A community that feels like home.
Purpose reconnects us to why we keep showing up, even when it’s hard.
This week’s Tuesday Tune Up is a quiet reminder:
You don’t have to give everything to prove you belong.
You already do.
Find your balance.
Protect your purpose.
And let polocrosse be something that fills your cup again — not empties it.
That’s how we stay in the game for the long haul.
