to one of my craziest and coolest experiences managing a race team: the USA United Racing Brazil Team at the Brazilian 12 hours, 500 km race at Granja Viana in 2005 with American hot shoes , , Patrick Long and Tim Maddux. We qualified 1.5 seconds behind the pole sitter (Ferrari F1’s Felipe Massa), which meant starting 44th out of 75 teams - no, it's not a typo, it was that competitive - and all four drivers ran fast and consistent on the top 10 board for the whole, hyper eventful race, but we finished out of the podium after losing 10 laps in the pits in the last hour, fixing brake issues. Endurance racing...we did not win, but after those 12 absolutely insane hours (think pouring rain, raging fire, blackouts, crashes and recoveries) we were the best foreign squad and, all agreed, came back with some incredible memories, on and off the track...

🇺🇸 to a few front rows of the grid full of Avallone at the old Interlagos track, early 70’s: in the first photos my dad on pole-position at the wheel of his creation, the racecar he build in Brazil and commercialized, as the rest of the grid shows - the odd one out in the third pic being a Ford GT40 that sneaked in. He won the most powerful Brazilian National Championship at the time, Divisão 4 for sport prototypes, as a driver and builder, while most of the top 10 in the series were Avallone racecars. Thank you, Rogério, for the great images and memories.

🇧🇷 para algumas primeiras filas do grid cheias de Avallone na velha pista de Interlagos, início dos anos 70: nas primeiras fotos meu pai na pole position ao volante de sua criação, o carro de corrida que ele construiu no Brasil e comercializou, como mostra o resto do grid - o 'estranho' na terceira foto foi um Ford GT40 que se meteu no meio dos Avas. O velho venceu o Campeonato Nacional Brasileiro mais poderoso da época, a Divisão 4 para protótipos, como piloto e construtor, a maioria dos primeiros 10 da série sendo carros Avallone. 🇺🇸This is a poster for a race tournament my dad organized in Brazil in the early 70's, Copa Brasil (this was the second edition of it, in 72), bringing top foreign drivers, teams and machinery to the country. He commissioned renowned British artist Dexter Brown, who he'd met while racing in Europe a couple of years earlier, to design the poster which included dad himself driving the white #1 Avallone prototype he built in the drawing. He became Brazilian Champion with this car shortly after. My racing childhood...

🇧🇷Poster de um torneio de corridas que meu pai organizou no Brasil no começo dos anos 70, Copa Brasil (essa foi a segunda edição, em 72), trazendo pilotos, equipes e carros top estrangeiros para o país. Ele comissionou o famoso artista britânico Dexter Brown, que ele havia conhecido enquanto competia na Europa alguns anos antes, para desenhar o poster que incluía meu pai pilotando seu protótipo Avallone branco, #1, com o qual ele seria Campeão Brasileiro logo depois. Boa sorte aos brasileiros-brasileiras competindo no RAAM essa semana, em cima das bikes ou no apoio, curtam muito essa experiência única! Pra vocês, humildemente ofereço esse visual da reserva Navajo no Arizona (slide bem danificado, eu sei...) que fotografei em 1994, a primeira equipe brasileira a correr essa prova que realmente é um marco na vida de quem participa. Nunca duvidem que vai dar certo e boa viagem! Aproveitem cada momento pois vai passar rápido!

A bit late but not less gutted to learn of Pat Patrick’s passing. Always a gentleman and straight shooter - rare combination of traits in the paddock - and one of the most successful team owners in motorsports. I was fortunate to deal with him a couple of times, including negotiating this test (photo) at his Indycar team for . He was always tough yet understanding, and generous with his advice, which I requested in more than a few occasions. He’d come through with an insightful analysis of situations and players, and positive suggestions every time. Will be much missed.

🇺🇸In mountain biking, I raced at the lower levels and worked at the top ones, rode all over and still do. The sport has been close to my heart for a very long time to say the least. This weekend, a huge barrier was broken when became the first Brazilian ever to win a UCI XCO World Cup, something truly unimaginable until he stuck himself to the front world Elite group a few years ago, put his head down and kept working - for my motorsport friends, the importance of this is very similar to the first Brazilian Formula One Grand Prix win, ever. Seriously. A win by a country of no tradition in a traditionally European sport. A well deserved reward for all the professional work Henrique has put in over the years, and to his support structure. Long time coming. Congrats, and thanks, Presidente. On to the Worlds!

🇧🇷No mountain bike, corri como amador e trabalhei como profissional, pedalei em toda parte e ainda pedalo. O esporte mora perto do meu coração há muito tempo, para dizer o mínimo. Neste fim de semana, uma barreira enorme caiu com se tornando o primeiro brasileiro na história a vencer uma Copa do Mundo UCI XCO, algo realmente inimaginável até que ele se 'plantou' no grupo da frente da Elite mundial alguns anos atrás, abaixou a cabeça e seguiu trabalhando - para meus amigos do automobilismo, a importância disso é muito semelhante à primeira vitória brasileira em um Grande Prêmio de Fórmula 1. Sério. Uma vitória de um país sem tradição em um esporte tradicionalmente europeu. Uma recompensa bem merecida por todo o trabalho profissional que Henrique desenvolveu ao longo dos anos e pela sua estrutura de apoio. Demorou! Parabéns e obrigado, Presidente. Para o mundial!

Can’t believe you’re retiring, ...thanks for giving me my first opportunity to work in motorsports in the USA, it did alter my life’s trajectory big time!
