26 years ago today Hicham El Guerrouj of Morocco set the mile world record of 3:43.13 in Rome.

It is the longest standing outdoor mile world record for men ever. Runner-up was Noah Ngeny of Kenya in 3:43.40 (still the #2 performance all-time.)
