Alex kicked off the season with a huge performance against Flyers Youth, scoring a hat trick in the 1st NJYHL game of the Thunder season! 🧢🧢🧢

Every week we recognize campers who demonstrate the values that make great hockey players—and even better teammates.

At Thunder Development Camp, we believe development is about more than goals and assists. It’s about building confident players who compete hard, support their teammates, and love coming to the rink.

Thunder Development Camp ⚡️⚡️⚡️

Built for players who want to push their game to the next level this offseason.
This is a high-tempo, detail-driven training environment focused on real development — not just ice time.

What players can expect: • 3–4 ice sessions + structured Ddryland training daily • High-rep, small group skill development for maximum touches • Game situations & small-area competition to drive decision making under pressure • Professional coaching with structured skill progressions • Powerskating emphasis to improve speed, edge work, and overall explosiveness
Every session is designed with purpose — building habits, pace, and confidence that translate directly into the fall and winter season.

Limited spots available to keep training groups small and competitive.

PRELIMINARY U14 COACHING ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR THE 2026-27 UNION THUNDER SEASON. Tryouts begin Monday, April 6th.

This chart was designed to help youth hockey parents better understand the different labels placed on new teams during tryout season from different leagues. Tryouts can be stressful — for players and parents. A few reminders to help keep the experience positive and productive:
1️⃣ Development > Teams
The jersey your child wears next season doesn’t define their long-term hockey journey. Focus on growth, confidence, and love for the game.
2️⃣ Every Player Develops at a Different Pace
Youth hockey is full of late bloomers. The goal today is progress, not perfection.
3️⃣ Effort is the Real Evaluation
Encourage your player to control what they can: work ethic, attitude, and being a great teammate.
4️⃣ Coaches Are Looking at the Big Picture
Tryouts are about fit, development path, and team balance — not just who scores the most goals that day.
5️⃣ Your Reaction Matters
Kids take emotional cues from their parents. Stay positive no matter the outcome.
6️⃣ The Love of the Game Comes First
The best players are the ones who enjoy showing up to the rink every day.
At the end of the day, hockey is a long journey. The goal is to help kids become better players, better teammates, and better people.

📣 ANNOUNCING PROJECTED U10 YOUTH & GIRLS TEAMS FOR THE 2026/27 SEASON. With a large group of returning 2016 Birth Years and an equally large and talented group of 2017s moving up from the U8 Age Group, we are looking continue the outstanding growth and development we saw across the board in the 2025/26 Season. We plan to field teams across all youth divisions in the NJYHL next season and continue to be the leader in local and player development-focused Tier 2 hockey in New Jersey.
