On Saturday at the Atlanta Fight2Win event we had several examples of some of the principles and concepts that we have been practicing as a gym.
In class we are always discussing what each grappler should be doing while drilling, situational drilling or rolling.
For example, this entire week we worked on trying to weight the leg that is under attack as our primary defense, while immediately following that up by clearing our knee line and/or disconnecting our opponent’s feet from each other, our hips/upper legs. You can see .maeee preform this beautifully in the first two clips (once from a Single Leg X Guard to a reap and once from a 50/50 to a forced reap.)
On the flip side, while we were primarily focusing on the defensive grappler this week during our situational drilling we were still getting many reps on how to maintain a good upper body connection to the lower leg while creating an off balance to the opponents butt or maintaining the dominant isolation and pin once the opponent is on their butt. In the second two clips you can see and do an excellent job of applying these developed skills (Lee from falling back from top half guard to an ashi with an outside heel hook and Rami from a guard retention inversion to a knee bar).
We’re incredibly proud of all of our athletes that competed this weekend and we are very proud to spotlight their hard work leading up to their recent matches.
