With Big Dog Baseball USA leading the way, we will be seeing the game of baseball played and coached better than it is today. There will be a lot of experts on the game with high expectations for all involved. This will be a combined effort from the baseball community and our team. There will be a very noticeable difference in how the game is promoted in America. We are going to have a lot of hard work, but the finished product will be greatly improved!

This Day in Baseball History, September 15th, 1969. St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Steve Carlton struck out 19 New York Mets batters setting a modern NL record....and lost the game, 4-3. The trouble was he gave up nine hits, walked two, and served up a couple of two-run homers to Ron Swoboda which accounted for all four of the Mets' tallies. The Mets had every opportunity to blow this game themselves, racking up four errors in the field.

Frankly I can't believe this didn't happen while Carlton was pitching for the 1972 Phillies, a team that only won 59 games, 27 of which were credited to Carlton. He was clearly doing a great deal of the heavy lifting on that roster.

The 1969 Cardinals, meanwhile, finished 87-75, fourth place in the NL East. Nothing to brag about, but respectable. "Lefty" won 17 of those 87. His victims that day, the Mets, went on to win it all.

It was a miracle, they say.

Carlton's 19 strikeouts remained the MLB benchmark for a nine-inning game until Roger Clemens fired off 20 K's in 1986 against the Mariners.
