Our Commodore and Flying Scot member, Yates Phillips, sent his congratulations to Overall winner Chet Hight, skipper and his crew Joe Falasco. This year Greg Hamilton won the Linda Sexton award (he has led race committee for years and is also a past commodore). Our fleet had another honor and one of our crew, Alberic, was selected “Keelboat Crew of the year” and he crewed on the Scot with Roger O’Quin (GMSC Secretary). Fred Church, Flying Scot Fleet Captain, was out of town and had his crew, Linda Van Blaricon, presented trophies. Our racers and their loved ones all gathered together for some group photos. Our fleet continues to amaze in strong skills, leadership and volunteering, and friendship!

Flying Scot Fleet Captain, Bud Smith, passes the torch “USB” to newly elected Fred Church on Sunday, November 17th at our fleet meeting. Greg Hamilton will remain fleet treasurer. These elections will be effective January 2025. Fred has been sailing for years but since his retirement wants to get back into racing the Scots. We so much appreciate Bud for his two year term attending board meetings, score keeping, reaching out to fleet for helping with race committee (plus taking several turns on committee boat when shorthanded) and communicating with fleet. We extend a warm welcome to Fred’s leadership!

A big “thank you” to Fleet 133 in the help on the Championship of Champions 2024! There were so many volunteers but we wanted to reach out to our fleet members and thank them again! First - let us thank our Jimm Powell, sponsor of Superior Bathhouse Brewery and Roger O’Quin for sponsoring the catfish dinner Thursday night and working all four days of race committee on the chaser boats. We want to thank Paul Smyers for being bartender on the Thursday night dinner and his wife Elizabeth for doing race committe plus hosted two champion competitors in their home. On Thursday at lunch - Bud and Laurie Smith served and cleaned up lunch. They were followed by Derrick and Gwynn Van Valkenburg cleanup on the catfish dinner. As life happens, someone got the Covid on Friday BBQ lunch so I cleaned up to prepare for the Sunday breakfast. We want to thank Greg Hamilton and his wife, Anne, for hosting a judge in their home during the event and Greg also being a judge for the week. We appreciate Chet Hight for serving on race committee and hosted a judge and a competitor! Alas, a very big thank you for being Harbor Master to Yates Phillips. He launched and brought in boats after every day of the event. We want to thank Art Speckles before the event started to start making room in the marina as we prepared for the champions! We have a fantastic fleet and so many of you were willing to host although some cancellations happened due to current hurricanes. It was light on wind, but not on volunteers! Thanks again! See y’all on the water! P.s. Fred and Kathy Church hosted the MC Scow team of Tom Burton and Hannah Noll and they enjoyed them so much!
