The final reminders that there was a dragstrip in Spartanburg, are disappearing daily as construction continues for a housing development on the land where the dragstrip used to be. We will always have our memories but eventually we knew this dreaded day would come. Since the reunion has been discontinued, we can continue to post our memories in photos on this page.

This is a tough post to make, but I am just going to be straight up and to the point. As of now, I am pretty much sure we will not have a Spartanburg Dragway Reunion in 2023, and possibly anymore. Myself and Jerry have poured our hearts and souls into making this event a yearly tradition of honoring our legends from the drag strip we have adored.

I am just going to get to the point. Each year, attendance has fallen at the event. I realize COVID had a significant part of that, but last year wasn't much better. While attendance has fallen off, the cost of producing the event (which has always been free for you) and the effort that goes into it have increased. It's not about money or effort. It's about the interest when on one Saturday night of the year, we have the opportunity to come together to celebrate our memories, and some take for granted those opportunities will always be there and just don't attend.

If it never happens again, it's been an awesome ride and one I have cherished. I hope we do it again one day. But right now, I'm just starting to believe its run its course, and the majority of you just don't share the same vision and passion.

I remember the disappointment and heartbreak when the strip closed down in 1983. This has rekindled many of those feelings.

It was an honor to see drag racers I grew up as a kid admiring get their just recognition for a job well done. Remember the Reunion is always the second Saturday of the year. We were down on attendance, but definitely not on fun. Please remember those who could not make it because of sickness in your prayers including 2022 inductee Truman Williams, who we will induct in the 2023 reunion.
