Congratulations to Longwood's Anthony LaGala-Ryan on winning the 2023 NHSCA Middle School National crown in the 95-pound weight class!!

5th in Virginia Beach in 2022, his return proved to be glorious as the 2023 NYSPHSAA DI State 5th place finisher from Suffolk culminated a perfect 5-0 Sunday when he overcame a 3-0 deficit to pin the representative from Virginia, Michael Santos, in 3:27!!!

On bottom to begin the final 90 seconds of actions, the Lion 8th grader would defend a tilt attempt and in the ensuing scramble was able to capture the head for a reversal straight to his opponent's back...

Smelling blood, NYWN's #2 overall Junior High prospect made the most of the opportunity, settling in the stick!!!

One round earlier (semis), LaGala-Ryan picked up a head-to-head victory in all-NY clash when he posted two takedowns, a turn, and a reversal to upend 2023 S9 4th place performer, EJ Vass (Valley Central), 9-3!
