This tournament is being held in honor of my grandfather and father, TAG and POPS. My grandfather was named James Fred Bohon, but he got the nickname “TAG” as a young child because he followed along behind his older brother, Bill, who was 3 years older. When I was 14 years old, I promised my grandfather that one day I would have “MD” behind the name Bohon. Poppa was my buddy and I worked hard at my schooling to make him proud of me. My father was named William Roger Bohon, Sr. The nickname, POPS, came about when my youngest son had difficulty pronouncing his name Poppa. The nickname stuck and everyone started calling my dad, Pops, until he died in July 2021. Both men were proactive in my life as a child in fostering my love for learning. My father would sit with me and play board and card games for hours on end. He worked with me on learning math. I had a hunger for anything mathematical or analytical. Poppa and my father were major influences in my life to strive for excellence in obtaining my education. I hope you will remember how important education is as you bowl in this tournament in their memory.
