🔥 Chimney Fire Safety Reminder 🔥
We’ve responded to several chimney-related fires in our area recently. As temperatures drop and fireplaces get more use, here are a few important safety tips:
✔ Have your chimney inspected and cleaned every year
Creosote buildup is a leading cause of chimney fires.
✔ Burn only dry, seasoned wood
Wet or green wood creates more smoke and increases creosote buildup.
✔ Check that the flue is open before starting a fire
A closed flue can force smoke and carbon monoxide back into your home.
✔ Never leave a fire unattended
Always make sure fires are fully out before going to bed or leaving home.
✔ Use a chimney cap and spark arrestor
These help keep embers contained and prevent animals or debris from entering the chimney.
✔ Install and maintain smoke alarms
Working smoke alarms provide early warning and save lives.
🚨 Signs of a chimney fire include loud cracking or popping noises, dense smoke, or flames coming from the chimney.
If this happens, get everyone outside immediately and call 911.
