This week's Memory Monday has us hearing from Stephen Hand Sr., who was part of Maine Sport's starting staff back in the early days!

"When I started my first computer business, Business Computer Solutions, Stuart promoted me starting while still working for Maine Sport. This led to me working many very late hours up in the office. One night, I was upstairs and I heard someone walking around in the store. I went to the windows and yelled “Who is down there?” Someone yelled back “Who is up there?” Then we realized it was Stuart and me.

"And I have to mention the old green truck. A Chevy K series pickup with a 3 speed manual on the column. When Stuart decided to move stuff from one site to another – we would just keep piling it on to the back of the truck was basically on the ground. Or the times we would get stuck places, like Main Street in Rockland with the shift linkage jammed up and having to crawl underneath to free it up.

"I think back to all the people that have worked at Maine Sport over 50 years – some memorable ones are Charlotte Peabody, Dode Andrus, Chris Molloy, Paul Cummins, Maxine, Sarah Andrus, Jen Nolan, Annie Getchell, Chris Shotwell, Ray Chase, Skip Brown, Mike White, Nicki Bland, and so many more…."

Today, Maine Sport continues to highlight members of our staff who we've lost but not forgotten. We're remembering Ed Eaton, a vital member of our store for over 20 years.

Always prepared. Could handle any emergency. Renowned for his dutch oven fruit cobblers prepared by the fire. Stuart and Marianne Smith have been committed to the Midcoast community for over fifty years. They started Maine Sport Outfitters in a tiny garage and grew it into a legacy that now spans multiple stores and businesses.The Smiths thrive in giving back to the community and creating memorable experiences by helping develop numerous community sports programs and a regional school.
