I stopped dead in my tracks when I arrived at Slickwater to pick up my skiff from Dennis Lappert. The guys and gals at When & Where Coating Studio made my classic Maverick HPXT sparkle like my new prop! Thanks so much for the special treatment. I’ll be back for a ceramic coating on my old pony.

I’m thrilled to be back in the land of casting ponds! My new work project has brought me out several times for meetings and planning sessions. Now, I’m staying for an extended period of time while we get the shop up and going.

Now do you know where my new project is?

Putting towards 2025 with anticipation and excitement! I have transitioned my status at Galveston Fishing Company fly shop from General Manager to Inventory/Project Management as a contractor, as was the plan from over 2.5 years ago when I moved to the island. I will still be in the shop occasionally but most of my work will be remote.

2024 has been full of a variety of challenges. I learned a lot and that knowledge and the experience I gained is rewarding, but not all of it came from pleasant situations. I learned so much more from the stress and anxiety, and that is the greatest benefit of all as I push the throttle forward. Change and challenge have been good things in my life and career. I am better because of them. I am super excited about new opportunities that I have! Stay tuned for a big reveal!

A year has flown by since I last posted (on my account). Birthing a bouncing baby fly shop has been consuming - of the best sort. is a beautiful, well appointed fly shop and adventure outfitter. I am very proud of the work I’ve done. I love my boss and the people I work with, and I love our customers and the Galveston area community. And I really love living on the island. I live on an island! That is so cool to say. I’m doing a ton of fly fishing instruction and some guiding, which is so rewarding to help someone progress in this sport I love. I live in a cool 100 year old house on stilts down the island where I can see beautiful sunsets, moon rises, and stars. My skiff is right downstairs and the ramp is 2 blocks away. I’m getting out on the water here more and more, and it’s so exciting to get to know this water as intimately as I know water in the middle and lower coast. And the Galveston Redfish are amazing! Life is good. I’ll share more and get you caught up on what’s happened in my island universe. Have a great weekend!

Have you been wanting to work in the fly fishing industry? Here is a great opportunity. Galveston’s first fly fishing shop is now interviewing for multiple positions, part- and full-time.

The two main requirements for working in the fly shop:
1. Applicants should be actively participating in the sport of fly fishing. Which means you are fly fishing on a regular basis.
2. Applicants should be enthusiastic about helping others. It is what we do for our customers and our fellow staff members that makes us successful.

If you have never worked in retail I can teach you. And while a fly shop is a great place to expand your fly fishing knowledge, I need staff members to bring some fly fishing experience to the job because our customers will expect us to know things about the sport, and even more so about the products we sell. There is a great deal of on-the-job learning and I try to make it fun. We will all work as a team at the shop, sharing the workload and learning from each other.

Some of the duties and responsibilities are:
- Greet and engage with customers, and assist them as needed in the store, on the phone, and by email.
- Grow your product and fishing knowledge so that you can answer customers’ questions and assist them by providing details.
- Maintain a clean and well organized store.
- Check in product shipments, restock and merchandise displays, and conduct inventory counts.
- Use the Point-of-Sale system to complete customer purchases and to look up items.
- Rig fly reels to specifications.
- Attend staff meetings, training sessions and various events that the shop participates in.
- Key-holders will be responsible for opening and closing the shop.

To apply, please email the following to the address below:
- A work history resume. I know that it might not include work in the fly fishing industry or even retail/customer service but I want to see your employment history.
- A cover letter. The cover letter is where you tell me about yourself and why you want to work in the fly shop. The cover letter should include:
o Your fly fishing background – a summary of your involvement in the sport, like where you have fished, the species you have targeted, and what products you like to use.
o Your involvement in the fly fishing community
o Your fly tying and boating experience
o Your interaction with social media platforms
o Your customer service and/or volunteer experience
o Any other experience you have that you feel would be important to your success in the job and the success of the shop.
o Extra consideration is given if you have management, social media, photography, data entry, e-comm, fly tying, and/or teaching experience.

Email the above to [email protected]

I have been working in the fly fishing industry for almost 30 years, primarily running fly shops. Galveston Fishing Company is the second shop I have opened from scratch. I share this so that you know that I will use my knowledge and experience to help you be successful as a staff member and fly fisher.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I look forward to hearing from you.

Captain Stacy Lynn
General Manager

Hope y’all had a great holiday weekend. I took some time off from new fly shop prep to have brunch and a dinner where boats staged up at sunset for the fireworks.

I had a meeting in Rockport on Monday (no, really, it’s true) so I took the opportunity to fish with my favorite fishing partner over the weekend. Saturday was very special. “Dead calm, slicked off, like glass” - descriptors not used in a long time. The run in his was dreamy.

First 2 fish to the boat were a 32” and a 31”. I took that as recognition and reward for putting in long days at the computer as I work towards opening the new fly shop

Yesterday I took advantage of an opportunity to learn more about on Galveston Island, view some of their land, and make a small contribution to their cause. The coastal prairie and dune-swell landscape filled my eyes with my favorite color: green.

The event included Snapper fish tacos and open bar.

I can’t help myself ... I take photos of flowers and plants! How about you? Their beauty and features astonish me.
