"Why do we teach kids to jump in and turn to the wall?"

It might look simple, but this is one of the most important water safety skills kids can learn.

If a child accidentally falls into a pool, the most common response is to swim towards the first wall they see. The problem with this is that it's often the farthest from them.
By teaching them to jump in and turn to the wall behind them, we're helping program into muscle memory that the wall behind them is the closest.

This skill teaches swimmers how to:
✔️stay calm after entering the water
✔️turn their body to find the wall
✔️move to safety and get out

It's not just practice, it's preparation.
In the water, knowing what to do right away can make all the difference.

"How do kids actually build confidence in the water?"

Water confidence doesn't happen all at once, it's built over time.

For babies, toddlers, and young swimmers, confidence starts with feeling comfortable in the water and learning how to move safely with guidance and support.

Through consistent lessons, kids begin to:
✔️gain real, repeatable water safety skills
✔️show measurable progress from one lesson to the next
✔️ build confidence as they master new skills step by step

Each lesson builds on the last, helping swimmers grow more capable and confident step by step. Because real water confidence isn't given, it's built through experience, repetition, and progress.

Fin-tastic job Julia! She has worked every position at Goldfish - whether it be at the Front Desk or Lifeguarding she always has a positive attitude and a smile on her face. She has been here since we opened our doors 9 years ago. She also helps out with our Social Media Team! We are so happy she is with us here in Rockland.
