What YTT is right for me?
When you show up in-person for a Yoga Teacher Training * You are seen * The relationship between you and your teacher is tangible * You build lasting community with your fellow students.
When considering a Yoga Teacher Training you have many options including online on your schedule, a destination intensive training over several weeks, or, if you are lucky, an in-person training in or near the community that you live in that may span several months. How do you choose the best training for you?
There is no one "best" training, or training format, but there may be one that is best for your individual needs and aspirations. Here are a few things that you should know:
* Every Yoga Teacher Training is different - there are no guidelines that Yoga Teacher Trainings must follow.
* Some Yoga Teacher Trainings are Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Schools (RYS) - there are basic requirements and guidelines that YA RYS’s must meet.
* If you would like to become a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT), you must train with a RYS (Registered Yoga School).
* A training may have one lead teacher or a number of different teachers.
* On-line yoga teacher trainings may be synchronous or asynchronous. Synchronous trainings run on a schedule where you meet live with your teacher and fellow students, allowing for real-time discussion and Q&A. Asynchronous trainings provide pre-recorded sessions that you watch at your convenience. An on-line training may include hundreds to thousands of students. You may or may not interact with and develop relationships with your fellow students who may be from different states and countries.
* Destination trainings are typically in-person but at a destination away from your home and community. They tend to be intensive & immersive. You will likely have the added expense of room and board. You will connect and form relationships with individuals scattered around the country or world!
* "Local" in-person training's are usually within 1 hour of where you live, depending on your tolerance for travel. They typically meet every 2-4 weeks over 6-12 months. You have the opportunity to integrate what you learn as you maintain your day to day work, family, and individual activities. You form relationships with individuals in your local community that frequently continue for years...
* In-person trainings may include anywhere from about 6 to 100 students sharing the learning space together.
The Tula Institute 200 hour yoga teacher training is a Yoga Alliance RYS training that is a blend of In-person training (160 hours) and online training - 43 hours asynchronous (on your own time), and 7 hours synchronous (scheduled live). I have found that this format works very well blending the benefits of the different teaching and learning approaches. The training is limited to 6-11 students allowing me to get to know each student and to teach to students’ strengths and challenges, and allowing students to develop meaningful relationships with each other. I am the sole lead trainer and over the years I have been able to weave together the different content areas of the training to offer students a coherent understanding of Yoga from postures, to anatomy, philosophy, meditation and breath work, yogic principles and ethics, and teaching methodology. I am constantly tweaking the training to meet the needs of the students in each training group.
If your interest is being exposed to the breadth and depth of Yoga and truly understanding it’s principles, if you want to learn from a teacher that will understand you and adapt to your needs and interests, if you are interested in building lasting relationships that will support you professionally and personally for years to come, and if you live in or near the midcoast then the Tula Institute of Yoga Teacher Training is for you!
