π Chad Finchum matches his NASCAR Cup Series career-best finish with 28th place in the Cracker Barrel 400 at Nashville Superspeedway, and he had to work for that one!
Not long after the start, Chad's cool shirt failed, setting him up for a long night. But with two free pass awards, we were back on the lead lap for the start of Stage 2 and still in the hunt. With a well-balanced car in his home-state race, Chad radioed in late in Stage 2, "I was giving it all she had... For what it's worth, I'm having a lot of fun out here!"
Big drama stuck early in Stage 3, right after Chad ran his quickest lap of the night. All of a sudden, our first battery rapidly started losing volts. We lost the alternator! The No. 66 had to creep to pit road under green, and the Garage 66 mechanics got our second battery hooked up.
However, with no alternator, that meant everything possible had to be turned off. No brake fans, no air circulating in the cockpit, no driver aids of any kind in order to keep enough juice in our last battery.
By the finish, Chad was really having to pump the brakes up to keep his pedal, but he did it! He crossed the finish line and matched his P28 from Talladega in April. Superb effort tonight! π
