Richmond Pines

Richmond Pines Architect: Donald Ross. 18 holes, par 72. Length: Blue 6303, White 5880, Gold 5268. Bermuda greens and fairways. Enjoyable for all skill levels.

Richmond Pines was established in 1928 by 50 local members who invested $1,000.00 each to build the course and purchase the land. It took six months to build and opened on September 28, 1928. It opened to public play on January 22, 1951 for a greens fee of $1.00 per day. The first nine holes are now hole 10-18. The course was changed in 1931 when Donald Ross, as a favor to a member, walked the cou

rse and redesigned it. This was the peak of the depression, and Ross would accept no fee from the members, many of whom were his personal friends. In 1963 a new front nine was built by Gene Hamm making Richmond Pines an 18 hole course. Richmond Pines has improved with age. The narrow fairways are lined with tall, mature pines and the greens are not as pronounced as those at Pinehurst, but still require a good eye and deft stroke to make par. Donald Ross described Richmond Pines as, "one of the best 'small courses' in the south."

Hannah Altman carded a 113 on the first day of the NC 4A state women's golf tournament at Pinehurst #1 . She improved her score on the second day of play by 14 strokes with a 99. Great experience and we're sure to see her and more ladies from the Richmond team next year. Proud of you Hannah!!!

Hannah Altman, a sophomore at Richmond Senior High, qualified for the 4A state golf tournament this week at Pinehurst #6. We at Richmond Pines are very proud of her and all the girls on the team.
They are an extremely hard-working group of girls and you will be seeing a lot more of these ladies. There is real talent there and more coming up from the middle school.
Hannah will tee off at 10:24 on Pinehurst #1 on Monday, October 27th. Congratulations again and we'll be cheering you on.
