Car Show Classes.

GOLD CLASS
Extensively done Show Vehicles. Three Gold Cups awarded. Entry into Gold Class by invitation of judging staff.

STOCK/STREET CLASS
Conservative Category – includes vehicles that appear to be factory stock with bolt on aftermarket or dealer installed parts. The body may have bolt on spoilers, ground effects, fiberglass parts,etc. Any molding of these items moves entry into the Modified Class. Paint may be of any color from any OEM manufacturer. Aftermarket candy, pearl, metal flake paint entries will be moved to Modified Class. Painted pinstripes, and taped pinstripes or decals and vinyl graphics allowed. Any molding of any type (including firewall, inner fenders, panels, etc) will move entry into Modified Class. Minor interior changes allowed (seat inserts, minor truck or truck bed modifications , and bolt in seats will stock type interior. No custom interiors allowed.

MODIFIED CLASS
The following will automatically put your vehicle in the Modified Class; bodywork that involves redesign of the original body lines, including but not limited to nosing, chopping, channeling, sectioning, changing radius of wheel wells, molding , tunneling, etc. Paint is of custom design such as painted graphics, shading, blending, candy, pearl, neon, or murals. Engine relocation and/or custom fabricated engine mounts and/or a different Chevrolet engine than was available with any given entry (for example – big block in ’57 Chevy) and/or a smoothed out engine block. Any aftermarket, non stock OEM, multiple car set-ups, tunnel rams, blowers, trubo chargers and/or late model tuned port type fuel injection on any other era vehicle. Interiors that are of a custom design that consist of changes to three or more of the following: seats, door panels, dash modifications, flooring, headliner, trunk, or truck bed area.

All Chevrolet vehicles with 75% of an original frame or altered original frame (including rear end narrowed), having a physically narrowed rear end wheel tubs or factory. OR All Chevrolet vehicles which have a complete tube chassis, from radiator to rear bumper (round or square). Must have a physically narrowed rear end and wheel tubs. All tube chassis drag cars and off road will compete in this class.

If you’ve ever experienced a sonic boom, you have some idea of the power of the Larsen Motorsports jet dragsters featured during Saturday’s portion of Rockingham Dragway’s Super Chevy Show presented by Richmond County Tourism. Except that with World Champion Elaine Larsen and teammate Dewayne Hill, those booms come in rapid succession as bursts of flame and fury from the afterburners of their two “wingless” jets, each capable of blowing the windows out of the tower on the way to 300 miles per hour. Boom, boom, boom, boom. Now that's power personified.

It’s called the Super Chevy Show presented by Richmond County Tourism, but in the spirit of the era, the Sept. 18-19 gearhead gathering at Rockingham Dragway does not condone discrimination in any way, which is why the massive car and truck show, the car corral, the swap meet and all the drag racing events also are open to Chevy’s GM siblings: Oldsmobiles, Pontiacs, Buicks and Cadillacs. So, in addition to Corvettes, Camaros and Chevy IIs, expect to see GTOs, Firebirds and Bonnevilles, Cutlasses, Eighty-Eights and Aleros, Regals, Rivieras and LeSabres and Coupe deVilles, Escalades and CT5s. Plus, on Saturday only, the awesome Larsen Motorsports jet dragsters of Elaine Larsen and Dewayne Hill. Adult tickets at the gate are $25 on Saturday, $20 on Sunday but if you buy early, discounts are available online at www.thefoat.com or www.rockinghamdragway.com . Tickets for kids 6-12 are $5 daily. Kids five and under are free with a ticketed adult and parking for all vehicles, even those not wearing a bow tie, is free in The Rock’s main lot.

All you folks who’ve been calling about this weekend’s Super Chevy Show, quit it. Stop! Cease fire! Just chill and take a look around you. See? No Hurry-canes. Just the first hint of fall. So, take a deep breath of that crisp September air and forget about the idiot weather guessers. To quote the late George Jones, “the race is on.” The forecast calls for Camaros, El Caminos, Corvairs, Corvettes, Chevelles, Chevettes, Monzas, Malibus, ‘55s, ‘65s and, just for grins, perhaps the first 300 mile per hour jet car run ever at The Rock. That’s because this year’s race not only features a barrage of bow ties but also on Saturday the jet dragsters of Larsen Motorsports including the one driven by two-time World Champion Elaine Larsen. GM bracket racing, a car corral, an over-the-top car show, swap meet and, for the first time, nostalgic front-motored Top Fuel dragsters. It’s a smorgasbord of Chevrolets. Tickets $25 Saturday, $20 Sunday, $35 for a two-day combo. Kids 6-12 just $5 a day. And, as always, free parking in the main lot.
