September 11th is one of those days I can still picture so clearly. It was a Tuesday morning and we were getting ready to leave for our homeschool co-op. My mom was watching the news, and I remember her looking so worried. I saw what was happening on the TV, but as a kid, I just didn’t grasp the magnitude of it. All I knew was that we were going to be late, and I did not like being late 😅 I remember getting frustrated with my mom and telling her we needed to leave. She looked at me and said, “Ciarra, our country is being attacked right now. I don’t care if we are late.”
We eventually got to co-op, late of course, and I remember my teacher stopping class to pray for our country. Even then, I don’t think I truly understood what had just happened.
Looking back now as an adult and a mother, it hits completely differently. My heart aches thinking about every life lost that day, the first responders and the families whose lives changed forever that day.
Today I had the honor of participating in a Hero Climb, completing 110 flights in remembrance of the first responders who climbed those stairs on September 11th. ❤️🇺🇸
I could never fully understand the pain that still lingers for those who lost someone they loved that day, but my heart aches for them. Climbing those stairs today was such a small act compared to the sacrifice shown that morning.
Never forget. 🇺🇸❤️
