After 32 years of practicing, and almost 18 years of teaching, the time has come for it to end. Last week was our last class and we are now closed. It has been a wonderful time, and I want to thank all the students and parents for all their support over the years. There is no doubt I am going to miss it very much. This has been such a big part of my life for so long. But now is the time to move on to other things in my life. Thank you all.

Part of a letter that I recently handed out to my students:

Dear students and parents,

As most of you know, this past December I got married. This has been a wonderful new chapter in my life. But with this comes new responsibilities and priorities for me and for my time. So it is with no small amount of sadness that I must inform you that, after nearly 32 years of practicing and teaching, I must soon hang up my belt and close the school…

… It has been a great joy to have had the opportunity to instruct you all and watch you learn and grow. Thank you all so much for all your time and support.

Due to the flooding, classes are canceled for at least this Tuesday, and maybe longer. While we were very fortunate, especially compared to so many others in the area, there is still some cleanup that we need to do.

A special thank you to the people who put sandbags not only in front of our door, but many of the other downtown business as well. Thank you!

I will be attending church services on May 18, so there will not be class. There will also not be class on the 23-30 as I will be on vacation.

Due to traveling, I will be closed January 11-25. Classes will resume on Thursday the 26th. Because of the long break, I will not be taking new students until February.

Some of the ladies of the Rock Rapids American Legion Axillary asked if they could put some displays in our windows for this year's Heritage Days celebration to coincide with the 100 year anniversary of their charter. Normally I don't do such things, but in this case to deny them would be, as one of my coworkers very accurately summed it up, "like spitting in Uncle Sam's face." And I wasn't about to let that happen. So ladies, it was my pleasure. They were also hoping to use it as a recruitment drive. So if any of you are eligible to join, please give it some thought.
