Today our team had the honor to help with the Special Olympics Area 11 Polar Plunge. Some members braved the cold waters to help ensure plunge participants were safe as they took a dip to raise money for a special cause.

This past weekend a few of our divers completed their public safety diver class. This training helps prepare them for rescue/recovery dives to support the community.

Great work from the newly certified divers and the few that helped out with the training.

This afternoon a few of our divers assisted the Carolina Ski Team in locating a cable that holds their ramp in place. The cable was attached to an anchor in 40’ of water.

They were also able to look around a dock for some rocking chairs that blew into the water. Our team uses these opportunities to train for real life scenarios.

Heading to the lake today? Children under the age of twelve must wear a personal flotation device (lifejacket) on a vessel smaller than 16 ft. Also, you must have life jackets for everyone on board your boat.

Our members were busy this weekend, thankfully it was with training.

We had two team members complete a Public Safety Diver training. The training was taught through Scuba Ventures and consisted of classroom instruction and two days of practical skills in the water.

A few of our members also assisted in hosting a Basic Swiftwater Training class. Similar to the dive training, our members held classroom training and two days of training in the Catawba River.

Trainings like these are what keeps our team ready to respond to emergencies and help protect the community.

A memorial service for Larry Crooks will be held on June 3rd at 6:00 p.m. at the Living Water Chapel in Westminster Park. We ask that you join us in remembering Larry's life.

Larry was instrumental in starting our dive team in 1988. It is amazing the amount of blood, sweat, and tears that he poured into serving York County. His knowledge and passion for rescue lives in each of us that has trained or worked with him. The world truly lost a great person and friend. Rest easy Larry Crooks.

One of our very own Operations Managers, Karen, is moving on to new adventures as she completes her last shift today. Although we will miss her, we are wishing her only the best on her new journey. With Karen and her nearly 29 years of service, comes an incredible wealth of knowledge and experience. She has left a lasting imprint on all who have had the privilege of working alongside her. We are thankful for the indelible mark she has made at PSC and in this field of work in general. We are thankful for her time with us, and all she has done to contribute to public safety communications, first responders, and the citizens of York County. Here's to you Karen! Thank you for everything and best of luck. You will be missed here at PSC 911.
