The biggest thing we see HS athletes get wrong in their swing? Their POSTURE.

Good luck trying to outrun bad posture, here are some things you can do to clean it up.

One of the biggest flaws we see in hitters is their set-up. Almost every youth and HS hitter we see sinks deeply into knee flexion instead of properly hinging at the hips in their stance or set-up.

Knee flexion causes hitters to load the front of their quads. Loading the front of the quad leads to standing up, coming forward, and pulling with the front side.

Too much knee flexion without a hip hinge kills a hitters ability to rotate the pelvis, leading to pulling with the front side. Fix your posture, fix your swing.

To say AZ has had a crazy year would be an understatement.

Playing varsity as an 8th grader, sitting in the low 80s, hitting like a madman in tournaments, making the Trosky National Team, and so much more.

Can't wait to see what he does next!

Front Pocket Drill:

The Front Pocket Drill is an excellent drill for athletes that 1) struggle to fully rotate, 2) get the bat head out front on inside pitches, or 3) get around/hook balls.

Set-up is very simple, place the tee even with your front hip pocket. If you’re working on full rotation or you have trouble getting the bat head out on inside pitches, think about hitting the ball into the pull side dugout. If you struggle with hooking the ball or getting around the ball, work the hands up the middle and try to hit the ball in fair territory.

The back knee foreshadows bat path. If the back knee extends or pushes the back hip will follow and the front side of the upper body will have to lead the swing, creating inefficient bat path and poor barrel direction.

The back knee should work in an arc, down and in. Some hitters (think Aaron Judge) will seem to lead pelvic rotation with this knee movement (internal rotation).

Other hitters will seem to pull the knee down and in with the pelvis (think Mookie Betts). Either way, knee bath is often indicative of barrel path.

Fix the lower body, fix the upper body!

Congratulations to Hit Mill Remote Athlete Griffin Everitt on signing with the Lincoln Saltdogs.

Griffin started training with us in late Winter on a remote based capacity. In early Spring he entrusted us by visiting The Hit Mill once per week to train in-person as a Hybrid Athlete.

Griffin’s trust, hard work, and continuous communication led to vast improvements in rotational capacity, mobility, bat speed, & exit velocity.
More importantly, Griffin made the changes in his swing to improve his adjustability, barrel accuracy, and barrel direction.

We are excited for Griffin to continue killing in the box and behind the plate!
