A great day of golf, competition, and community at Old Hickory. ⛳

Special Olympics New York athletes from the Genesee and surrounding regions came together for the 2026 Genesee Region Super Regional Golf — showcasing their skills across multiple levels and, most importantly, enjoying the game together.

From the opening ceremony to the final putts, take a look back at some of the moments that made the day special.

Golf is more than a game — it’s an opportunity to try something new. ⛳

Two juniors from the Jerry Stahl Junior Golf Academy share why they joined the program, what they discovered about the game, and what the experience meant to them.

From finding a love for putting and hitting the driving range to simply being given the chance to learn, their words say it best:

“I would say thank you for giving me this opportunity and letting me learn new things.”

For Tim Karches, Executive Director of First Tee - Western New York and a First Tee Recognized Coach, the Jerry Stahl Junior Golf Academy is about much more than learning how to swing a golf club.

It’s an opportunity for young people across the Rochester community to meet new people, learn new skills, and develop values like perseverance, honesty, and integrity through the game.

Thanks to Tim and everyone helping create an experience that can make an impact far beyond the golf course. 💙

“Whatever you learn in golf, you can learn in life.” ⛳

For Gary Tatar PGA Professional, the most rewarding part was watching the progress happen right in front of him.

Kids at the Jerry Stahl Junior Golf Academy went from barely making contact to hitting three, six, and even seven shots in a row. And after learning the game throughout the week, each junior would get to take home their very own set of golf clubs.

From patience and perseverance to setting goals and learning how to practice toward them, this experience is about much more than golf.

It’s about creating opportunities to learn, grow, and keep playing long after the academy ends. 💙

“I’m the example, and I used to never be.” ⛳

Three of our AMAZING volunteers at the Jerry Stahl Junior Golf Academy, helped introduce the game to the next generation — and had the chance to become the role models they once looked to themselves.

From teaching the “trophy pose” to watching a junior’s face light up after hitting a great shot, the experience brought their own junior golf journeys full circle.

And we agree, having more girls leading the way can help “shape the future of girls golf around here.”

That’s what growing the game looks like. Great job Girls and thank you for volunteering!

The 2026 RDGA Women’s Open brought golfers of all ages and skill levels together at Monroe Golf Club for a great day of competition, camaraderie, and community.

RDGA Junior Members have access to $5 rounds at 15+ Rochester-area courses through Youth on Course.

Grab your clubs, grab a friend, and get out for another round. Then, when you’re finished, post your score in GHIN and keep tracking your progress.

⛳ More Than Just Three Days of Golf

The Jerry Stahl Junior Golf Academy welcomed 18 juniors from the Rochester community to Genesee Valley Golf Course for three days designed to introduce them to the game — many for the very first time.

From putting, chipping, and full-swing instruction to receiving their own set of golf clubs, the juniors learned the fundamentals alongside PGA professionals and volunteers. By Friday, they were taking those new skills onto the course and playing a full hole.

Thanks to the RDGA Foundation, Oak Hill Foundation, First Tee, and additional sponsors, these young golfers received an opportunity to experience the game, build confidence, and discover where golf can take them.

Three special days at Genesee Valley — and hopefully just the beginning. 💙⛳

Now in its 13th year, the RDGA Women’s Open brought together women of all ages and skill levels for 18 holes of competition and another memorable celebration of the women’s golf community in Rochester.
