To the Friends, Family and Supporters of Erin's Isle:

We have been having training sessions every Saturday since after Parade Day at Newcastle Road School 46, the same location as it has been for years now. I know because I've been there. We started at 10AM and even went with some vigorous drills where someone nearly lost a headband (not to mention any names). Ryan is planning on bringing even more of the extended Mulhern family this week to my understanding, but we could still use some more participants none the less. Sure it's cold, wet & muddy, but May is right around the corner and so comes match play.

With that in mind, Syracuse has moved the 7's tournament they are hosting to May 2nd and we need to know if we will have at least 7 available to represent Erin's Isle. We are getting responses to line up other dates with ALB & BUF, too. Replying to just my email instead of a Reply All or to the Club email address or Facebook really isn't your best option right now, however.

I personally will not be at training this week and have handed the gear off to Ian Crosby and asked him to make sure it gets there. Everyone will have to contact our Secretary, Mike Carlotta, or Vice Chairman, Peter O'Brien, with any comments, questions or concerns over the next few weeks as I will be incommunicado enjoying my long-awaited honeymoon in a tropical locale in T-minus-1½ days. Feel free to post questions on our page if email isn't your thing, but that personally has never really been mine. We do have a Public Relations Officer in Geoff Guyette who should be able to help you get sorted out there on the book of faces, however.

To the Friends, Family and Supporters of Erin's Isle:

We had our first training session past Saturday at Newcastle Road School 46, the same location as it has been for years now. We started at 10AM and went until our thirst got the better of our efforts. I know that two of the players that were there said they cannot make this week and Ryan apparently is planning on bringing the extended Mulhern family, but we could still use some more participants none the less. Sure it's cold, wet & muddy and the NCAA tourney is going on, BUT we're done before any of the games are played anyway ! The Wintonaire is still quite warm and inviting afterward with plenty of televisions for getting either your "Madness" fix or loving/hating some team called ManU.

Syracuse has already submitted their schedule to the Midwest and have us on their calendar for playing in da'Cuse on May 30th & back in da'ROC on June 20th. There is also the 7's tournament they are hosting on May 9th.There is a tournament for the Midwest on August 8th that should be a good craic, where we get to watch a Nationals' level play amongst the Midwest Clubs fighting it out to go to Nationals down in Pittsburgh this year. I'd like to get some responses to these and even line up other dates with ALB & BUF if you are planning on participating. April is right around the corner and that tournament will be here in no time.

These are all things that you need to help me make happen. I will be at training and have inflated balls to kick & hand pass, already an improvement from the first training session with the Patriots fan making sure the balls are pre-pumped before showing up. There is plenty of rust to work off no matter what you think you have been keeping up on during the off-season, I can guarantee it. I hope some of the newer folks to this email list are willing to brave some downright sh*tty Rochester "Spring" weather to learn that a "solo" is more than just a cup you throw a ping pong ball into from across the table. Come out, get sweaty and dirty, be a Club, be awesome.

Friends, Players & Supporters of Rochester Erin's Isle Gaelic football:

A Chara,

I would first like to thank everyone for their continued support and assistance with the upcoming season. Fortunately, the NACB has found us to not have been responsible for being unable to field a team to the National tournament at the end last season due to the confusion regarding Junior C & D participation, the late season drop off of Syracuse in participation as a Midwest representative at a competitive level, and overall level of communication between levels. I am hoping that the current Board can step up and better communicate to the Club and general public what our status is as an organization, what information is being relayed from other Clubs and other levels of organization (Midwest, NACB, etc), and events like signing up to participate in the annual St Patrick’s Parade.

I am reaching out now in hopes of addressing anyone still interested in having a Gaelic football club existing in the Rochester area to come out and support our Club. This is not a time for lip service, but rather we need to have a showing by marching in the parade to represent ourselves as a legitimate organization. Figure out whether you need to get dropped off, plan you route if you need to catch a bus, or get a ride lined up now and get yourselves there on Saturday morning. I would not like to rely on having random strangers joining us in marching, but rather invite and friends, family, or potential recruits to come out on Saturday. We line up on Union Street between East and Charlotte (right turn off of East onto Union). Get there before Noon. We are going to be behind the Pittsford FD and ahead of the Rochester Red Wings baseball team.

We would like to start training and have a kick around the following weekend. If the weather holds until then, I am suggesting the usual place and being outdoors, but we may have to rent space otherwise. Syracuse has already started training indoors and we’re going to have some catching up to do with proposed match dates already being lined up. We are planning on avoiding family-based holidays like Mother’s & Father’s Days, along with Memorial and Labor Days, but if you have blackout dates from your own personal schedules, please let us know ASAP so we can get to setting up a game schedule with other clubs. Again, I am hoping for more help in getting the Club information out, but we also need feedback from the players to make this work! If I sound harsh, it is because this Club requires more dedication and involvement than last season to survive. We have lost several perennial players who have left the area and need to recruit and fundraise more than ever before, but I need your help to do so.

Letter from our president:

A Chara,

I would first like to wish a Happy Thanksgiving to all. Unfortunately, that may be where the happy thoughts end, as this past season was terribly trying for most everyone involved in the Club. The Board has taken the loss of three different members stepping down during the course of the season in stride and responded with an effort beyond my expectations. Those that remain have met to discuss matters that follow the season where we (1) lost the participation of Syracuse in the Midwest championship schedule at the end of the season, (2) could not field a squad to travel to the nascent club in Albany, (3) had several perennial players relocate or discontinue playing, (4) suffered various injuries that kept players off the pitch, and (5) qualified, but did not attend, the National tournament.



I am reaching out now in hopes of addressing anyone still interested in having a Gaelic football club exist in the Rochester area. It will not be an easy task, but this Club requires more dedication and involvement than last season. We are in dire straits financially from the ramifications of having fines and the cost of hotel rooms levied upon us from not making the trip to Boston for Nationals. We had hoped that a member that happened to now be living near where the National convention was held would have been able to attend to represent the club, but he could not make it and now we are fully at the mercy of the NACB. We are going to schedule a conference call with the current Midwest Chairman to discuss any manner in which he can help us survive the current state of affairs.



The Midwest AGM was supposed to have been this past weekend, but has been rescheduled to December 6 due to the weather. I did reach out to Syracuse to discuss our situation and they are willing to work with anyone that may be interested if it comes to the point where Rochester can no longer support a Gaelic football team despite having full-fledged leagues for kickball, Frisbee, and wiffleball to go with a strongly growing Hurling Club. I cannot question the dedication of the current Board for Erin’s Isle Board after what we have gone through, but I am challenging each and every one of you to determine for yourselves whether or not you are as dedicated as well.



We are arranging to have the AGM for Erin’s Isle at 1pm on Sunday Dec 14th at L&M Lanes (873 Merchants Rd, Rochester, NY 14609) on the second floor. Most members of the Club have likely been there before, but this could very well be the very last time that the Club meets with a poor response. Please RSVP ONLY if you are not going to make it. No response will be considered a vote for not participating. Please understand the grave importance of this meeting and what is at stake for our club. Please make every effort to have an appearance at the AGM if you want there to be an Erin’s Isle Gaelic football Club in Rochester.

Final Score Rochester 2-11, Buffalo 4-9

After a pulsating game of football Buffalo edged out Rochester 4-9 (21pts) to 2-11 (17pts) on a beautiful and hot day in Growney Stadium.
Both teams battled hard and will advance to the National finals in Boston on Labor Day Weekend. Congrats to Buffalo but watch out for us in Nationals!

Correction to previous post!

The game this Saturday will now be played at St. John Fisher College at 2pm. It will be on the main Growney stadium turf field and please park in the lot I in front of the athletics building.
Bring supporters for the biggest game of our season so far as we play for the division title!

Practice CANCELLED tonight due to incoming weather. It has been rescheduled for 6pm Thursday same place. Game is this Saturday at 2pm in Center Park, Fairport (same place as Albany game).
