STUDIO RESTRUCTURING INFORMATION _- SCHEDULE INTERUPTION NOTICE

As some of you may have noticed, the studio looks a bit barren these days.
The fact is that after a relationship of over 40 years, the Recreation Department is not renewing our lease and we need to remove our program property from the site by the end of April. We will continue classes in the dojo space throughout the rest of the month.
We are being assured that our programs will be retained and offered under the Recreation Programming as an option, but we will be sharing the space with other programming. They will be Recreation programs administered by them and taught by us. After a period of time to renovate the space, they will present the fee and class schedules. A renewed registration will be required. The proposed timing of this for their rollout has been reported as the Summer schedule starting in July 2025.

In the meantime, we are looking for a training space into which we can move our programs to ensure continuity and develop advanced training that students may attend beyond the Recreation programs. For this we can use your help.
If you are aware of a potential space that we might use for the short term until July or until we can find or build a facility into which we can move our dojo, we would appreciate your input. We are looking for available space and scheduling in churches potentially or schools, or open unused spaces. Some training may be done outside at the Rochester Commons (as we were required to do through the start of the COVID period), but weather limits this as a full solution.

We fully intend to continue offering our Karate and Tai Chi programs to our dedicated student base, but depending on how quickly we can land a training space, may need to suspend taking new students for the month of May.
We will communicate where and when we will be meeting for those existing students as things develop and encourage everyone to keep working hard as we restructure our program elsewhere.

Please share if you have ideas on training space options.

I prefer using the term "movement" instead of "exercise" when talking about physical activity. Although I can't run, I engage in Tai Chi/Qigong movements. I may need to adjust my practice at times, but I still experience the mental and physical benefits.

Some doubt whether physical activity can actually improve your mood but I know that it can.

Tai Chi not only nurtures physical health but also fosters profound social connections. Practitioners often gather in parks or community centers, forming tight-knit communities bound by a shared appreciation for balance, harmony, and inner peace. Whether exchanging gentle smiles during practice or engaging in post-session discussions, the Tai Chi community exemplifies the power of human connection, promoting an overall sense of well-being. Please feel free to join our friendly group at any time.

An interesting article from the American Lung Association website.

I also like the one-page worksheet to help guide a conversation with your healthcare provider about increasing your physical activity.

Tai Chi instructor Kendra Lair explains the health benefits of the sport.
