This statement is wrong and dangerous. The get up, shake it off, man up approach has been detrimental in many ways.
This is the attitude that contributes to coping by other means such as alcoholism, absentee fathers, domestic violence, ptsd, and the highest su***de rates in men.
Healing, recovery, and mental health aren’t one size fits all approaches. One thing is for sure, keeping it all bottled up is not healthy.
It’s okay to talk about it. It’s ok to seek help in different ways. Don’t poo poo others journey. And don’t be afraid to speak up and speak out.
All That Remains vocalist Phil Labonte is generating discussion after claiming that "therapy is for women" during a new interview with Bill Bailey of Today's Boondoggle Podcast. The outspoken frontman argued that men are more likely to overcome struggles through action, purpose, and accomplishment rather than talking through their problems.
Labonte made the comments while discussing what he sees as a growing crisis among men, pointing to rising rates of depression, addiction, su***de, and disengagement from society. He suggested that activities such as building, creating, and working toward goals can be more effective for many men than traditional therapy.
The remarks have quickly sparked debate online, with supporters and critics weighing in on his views regarding mental health, masculinity, and modern culture. Labonte also described himself as generally right wing during the conversation and reiterated concerns he has previously raised about issues affecting men and boys.
What do you think about his comments?
