Stress first. Strength second.

When an outsider looks into the strength world they generally have uniformed misconceptions. One of the most common is that once you become strong, you lift heavy weights. But this is in fact, backwards. The heavy weights is what produces the strength. Beginners and intermediate fitness junkies are often afraid to lift heavy weights. They fear injury, exposure, humiliation, magical bulky-ness and of course, the unknown. But every culture since the dawn of time has celebrated strong bodies. A strong defined body has been emblematic of success and has demanded respect for thousands of years. We carve them. We paint them. We photograph them. We pay to see them function. We even lust after them. Strength is useful. Strength is empowering. Strength is attractive. Strength is beautiful. How does one acquire this asset we call strength? By introducing a stress to the body that it is not yet capable of overcoming, or at least not without immense struggle and effort. Stimulus that does not require struggle, focus and much effort is not capable of elevating the body out of its natural state of entropy. The body will only change because it must. Our bodies are masters of efficiency. We use minimal effort to do everything. Stressful (heavy) training requires the body to adapt so it can use less energy when faced with a similar stressor again. If you are weak, lift heavy to get strong. If you are strong, lift heavy to stay strong. Stress first. Strength second.
