The last European WOWS qualifier of the season took place at Skydive Grenchen in beautiful Switzerland. The event was filled with positive emotions and friendly competitiveness. All participating pilots were new to the WOWS format and enjoyed a steep learning curve, showing great flying skills and impressive results by the end of the competition. The first place in Distance went to Michi Wechsler (SUI), an incredibly talented local pilot who charmed everyone with his humbleness. The event was interrupted the next day by 30+kt winds, giving everyone a great opportunity to enjoy Switzerland and make unforgettable Eiger jumps just 1.5hr away in perfect conditions. The following day the racing resumed to determine the fastest wingsuit pilot. Pascal Intini (FRA) won the Speed final impressing everyone by his talent and skills. Special thanks goes to the event organizer, full-time rabbit, scorer, and ringmaster Alexey Galda. Not to forget Marc Pfiffner, who has done a great job as a local organizer of the competition, securing a lot of local and national support. Hopefully, WOWS Switzerland will become an annual event that is not to be missed. Notably, Marc also placed 2nd in both Speed and Distance, well done and thank you!

This event would not have been possible without the hospitality and support from Skydive Grenchen, Swiss Skydive, our sponsors– Squirrel, GoPro, Comply Foam, FlySight, Ragged Mounts, and, most importantly, our great competitors.

The second WOWS European Qualifier was a thrilling one, packed with an extraordinary level of talent and excitement throughout! Ulf Munkedal was dethroned from his recent top spot in Speed by none other than the great Alexey Galda, who swept the podium in both Speed and Distance. Former FAI Wingsuit Performance World Champion, Espen Fadnes, also put up a valiant effort in the Distance finals but ultimately found himself finishing in second place. Joe Ridler and hometown Nordic macho-mustache man, Dennis Ohlsen, duked it out for third in both brackets with Dennis edging him out and taking home two well-earned third place finishes.

A huge thank you goes to Natalie Stella for her tireless work scoring both our Euro events and Faldskærmsklubben.dk who pulled out all the stops by going above and beyond with their hospitality and letting us put their new zebra fur-lined caravan through the paces, taking us on a racing safari of the northern skies. Last but not least, thank you to all our competitors who came and gave it their all, without you none of this is possible.

Our first European WOWS Qualifier marked several firsts— WOWS rookies, Niccolo Porcella and Ulf Munkedal, won first place in Distance and Speed, respectively. Followed by veteran and second place winner on both podiums, Chris Geiler, flying his C3. Lastly, third place in Distance went to another WOWS rookie, Joseph Likierman, while Joe Ridler took home the third spot in Speed.

We would like to thank all our competitors, new and old, and give a special shout out to Skydive Fano for their first class hospitality and support throughout the event.

Next stop, Denmark this Friday. Stay tuned for more wingsuit racing!

The Second WOWS Championships have come to a close. The Speed, Distance, and Flare events were all completed and the results are posted below.

This event was marred by the tragic loss of our friend, Aime-Jean St. Hilaire Adam (Jean Adam), who finished third in the Speed event. During the Distance event, an accidental collision occurred between John and another pilot. Further information about the accident will become available when the report is completed by Riverside County officials. Competitors voted to halt the Distance consolation round after the accident. Therefore, the results exclude the 5th through 8th place standings.

John was a dear friend and a highly talented wingsuit pilot who was dedicated to the sport. He will be deeply missed by our community.
