Gary Aart Baker Obituary
Gary, 88, a 65-year resident of Rochelle Park, formerly of Saddle Brook, passed away on Monday, April 22, 2024 with his loving family by his side. Before retiring, Gary worked for Hoffman-LaRoche for 25 years. Gary was an Army veteran who served our country proudly.
At the young age of 7, Gary competed in the Soap Box Derby where he claimed the winning title. He won again the following year, both times winning a brand new bike! Gary was active for many years as an umpire and coach for the Little League of Rochelle Park. He was a proud blood donor, hoping to reach 100 pints, but was just short with 93. Gary enjoyed woodworking, camping, and cherished the unbreakable bonds he developed with those dearest to him. Gary prided himself on his loyalty to his friends. For 80+ years, he stayed in contact with his friends from boyhood, often getting together to play cards. Gary was an expressive man who made lifelong friends out of strangers.
Cherished husband of 62 years to Nancy (nee Warnaar). Beloved father of Scott Baker, Laurie Cherico and her husband Jerry, Amy Montesdeoca, son-in-law Robert, and Brian Baker and his wife Eileen. Treasured grandfather of Brittny, Stephanie, Matthew, Andrew, Sarah, Erin, Olivia, Avarie, and great-grandchildren James and Mason. Dear cousin of Barbara Erwood. Predeceased by his mother Jean Opperman, brother Warren Baker and father figure, Elliot Erwood.
Family will receive friends on Friday April 26, 2024 from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm at the Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 113 South Farview Avenue, Paramus, NJ. Cremation will be held privately. Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
