Our Star of the week highlights former Conrad Weiser Area School District Athletic Director, Scott Shultz!

Scott graduated from Conrad Weiser High School in 1973. He was a participant in soccer, wrestling, and track and field. In his senior year, Scott was named to the First Team All County in soccer.

At East Stroudsburg, he was a 3 year letterman for soccer, scoring the winning goal in the PSAC Championship his senior year. He then went on to coach varsity soccer at Conrad Weiser High School from 1989 to 2001.

Along with Assistant Coaches Tim Hohl and Mel Gerhart, the team won 1 district, 1 county, and 9 division championships, finishing with a record of 191-99-17. Scott was named Berks County Coach of the Year 4 times and PA Coach of the Year in 1995.

Scott Shultz was inducted into our Hall of Fame in 2007!

Did you know that former Conrad Weiser High School Principal Dr. Betsy Adams is in the Athletic Hall of Fame?!

Dr. Betsy Adams was part of the 2005 induction class and served on the Hall of Fame Board for several years!

During her time at Conrad Weiser Area School District she earned two varsity letters in Field Hockey, 3 in Girls Basketball, and 4 in Softball. She was also named Top Female Athlete.

At Vassar College, she played basketball and field hockey each for two years. She then went on to coach softball for 8 years and field hockey for two years at Palisades High School.

Dr. Betsy Adams served as a basketball official for 8 years and played recreational softball for 10 years. Finally, she served as the President of the Berks Interscholastic Athletic Association for 7 years, and served 4 years on the PA Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) Oversight Council.

From past to present: this week's Star of the Week is Conrad Weiser High School teacher Tyler Witmer!

Tyler graduated from Conrad Weiser in 2008. He played Boys Soccer and tennis in high school and also kicked for the Conrad Weiser Football team. He lettered all four years in soccer, was named All Division 3 years, All County his senior year, and Berks Player of the Year in 2008. He was also named to the PA All State soccer team and was 1st team All County in football his senior year.

Tyler played Division I soccer at Temple University. As a freshman (2008), he led with 8 goals and was honored with Freshman of the Year and named to the Atlantic 10 All Rookie team. In 2009, he was All Conference Honorable Mention, team Co-Captain, and named to the NSCAA(United Soccer Coaches) Division I All Mid Atlantic Region team. In 2011, he was team Captain, named to the Atlantic 10 All Conference Honorable Mention, and the NSCAA Mid Atlantic 2nd team.

After college, Tyler played with the Harrisburg Heat professional soccer team from 2012-2016 and was Captain in 2015-2016. Tyler was an Assistant Coach for the Conrad Weiser Conrad Weiser Girls Soccer team from 2013-2015 and has coached with Reading Rage since 2012. He is also the U6-U8 Futures Program Director and Camp Coordinator.

Tyler was inducted into the Conrad Weiser Athletic Hall of Fame in 2022!

It's only right that our first Star of the Week is our founder and first President, Wilson Hartranft!

Wilson created our organization in 1999 and was part of the first inductee class in 2000. He was a 3-sport athlete at Conrad Weiser High School and East Stroudsburg University.

He coached Conrad Weiser High School Boys Soccer for 30 years, amassing a record of 238-196-46. Under his direction, the team collected 4 division titles, 1 Berks County championship (1967), and 1 district championship (1984).

Wilson was selected Berks Boys Soccer League FOUR times (1967, 1983, 1984, & 1988), and also earned the honor of PA Coach of the Year in 1988. In January 2024, Wilson was inducted into the PA Soccer Coaches Hall of Fame.

He also coached Conrad Weiser High School Boys Basketball for 5 years with a record of 90-27.

Finally, during our Fall 2024 induction ceremony, Wilson became the first (and currently, only) recipient of the Conrad Weiser Athletic Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement Award!
