As a personal trainer for 20 years or so, I’ve seen just how vital healthy living is for a thriving community. A few years ago, city officials asked if I’d serve on the Park Board. I was hesitant...driven by the desire to give back, I said yes.

At those first council meetings, I was struck by how dedicated our city officials, volunteers, and staff truly are. I wasn’t sure how much of an impact I could have, but I showed up with an open mind.

Holistically, my goal was to support and foster the thought process that accessibility to healthy living comes first in decision-making — not on the back end. A more tangible goal was to push for a fitness park in our community.

After some discussions, I shared the challenges many people face: the affordability of fitness, time constraints for parents, and the overall need for accessible health opportunities.

Fortunately, the board and city officials saw the potential and need. Lake View Terrace Park stood out as the perfect location ... with a really nice view, nearby biking and running paths, a great hill for workouts, and close to sports fields and a playground.

Looking back, I’m allowing myself to feel proud of what we've accomplished. While I don’t know how long I’ll serve, I encourage everyone—especially now—to lean into your community in ways that create real impact, beyond partisan divides. Together, we can build healthier, stronger neighborhoods. 💪🌟

The grind never stops when you have a home gym....its never "complete"
Currently filling in woodpecker holes and repairing about 40 years of damage.Stain and clear coat is next. Ill also mention that I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing.
