❄️It’s Novemburr! Are you prepared to hunt in cold weather? ❄️

Some of the most common and dangerous risks to hunters result from exposure to extreme weather.

Dressing appropriately for cold weather and avoiding dangerous weather conditions is key. Keep your cheeks, ears, fingers, and toes warm and dry. Wear layers and ensure your clothes remain dry. Dress in moisture-wicking base layers, insulating mid-layers, and waterproof outer layers to trap warmth and block wind.

Always have a hunting plan and share it with someone. Let them know where you’ll be and when you expect to return.

Here’s some additional tips to consider while hunting:

🔸Try to avoid hunting or traveling alone.
🔸Take plenty of food and water.
🔸Take a map and a compass and orient yourself before leaving your camp/vehicle.
🔸Always bring fire-starting equipment and a foil blanket.

If you get lost, commit to spending the night where you are. Remaining in one spot increases the chances of being found in a few days. Focus on shelter, fire, and signal. Then, focus on food and water.

Find more information in the comments. Share this post with a hunter you care about.

Good luck. Have fun. Hunt safely.

This CT scan shows a two-headed fawn that was found in the woods in Minnesota near the Mississippi River. The conjoined fawns’ body was found by a mushroom hunter and sent to UGA Warnell’s Deer Lab. While occurring more often in domestic animals, this is incredibly rare in the wild. This is the only known case to have ever been birthed. While never viable, they were found to have been cared for by the mother until death, showing the incredible maternal instinct of a deer.

To our loyal and valued customers. During this time of loss and sorrow. I would just like to thank everybody for there understanding. The unfortunate truth of owning and running a business. Running a business is really hard. They don't tell you that it can cause severe stress and anxiety and mentally drains you to the point of depression in even the most laid-back people. Some people will talk about you, compare you to others, and use you. They will view you as a service and not as a person anymore. Some will value you and your hard work less than a big chain store. You have to worry about if you forget to email/message someone back, will they think it was on purpose? Did you disappoint them? Will they hold that against you? At times you can only get to some people's messages and emails. Starting and running a successful business puts incredible strain on personal lives and relationships, many of which fail because there is often no work-life balance.
You need to be the director, the worker, the admin, the marketing team, the accountant, and the maintaince man and janitor. All whilst being a parent, a husband or a wife, family support, a friend. You don't see many people succeed in small businesses after 5-10 years. If they are successful, they are overwhelmed. It takes a toll. It's freaking exhausting. Especially the past couple of years when so much has been out of our control. My beloved wife's medical problems have put a tremendous strain on our business but I also want to thank you all again for your loyalty and understanding.
This is a small reminder that we are just normal people with hectic lives. Also I really need to thank my family and some friends that are like family in holding things together at Swarthouts Skullworks the last few months. We will be moving forward with our services and looking forward to getting to do our best for all of you. Be kind, be patient, and thanks again for supporting our small businesses.
