The fifth and final Yama, the first limb of Yoga, is Aparigraha; non-attachment, non-greed, non-possessiveness; essentially letting go. For my entire life my hair has been how I identified myself (I was born with a full head of thick curls) my hair was my security blanket; how my hair looked determined how I felt and how I saw myself and whether I felt confident that day or not. My hair held so much power over me, and honestly, I was tired of hiding behind my hair. Doing this drastic cut, was my way of freeing myself, and to practice the hardest form of “letting go” I needed. Maybe one day, I’ll grow my curls out again , until then, allow me to reintroduce myself. Huge shoutout to Amber Kamide for being part of my hair journey for the past almost 7 years, I mean it when I say I will follow you to the ends of the world if it means only you play in my hair 🫶🏾 🔶
