What We Teach
Ages 12 months to 3 years
Swimmers begin with essential survival skills, including but not limited to:
⢠Breath control (holding and releasing breath underwater appropriately)
⢠Floating on their backs with and without assistance
⢠Rolling from a face-down position to their back with assistance and eventually independently
⢠Jumping in, recovering to their back, kicking, and swimming back to the side of the pool
YOU WILL BE AMAZED!
Ages 3 to 5 years
Children will first learn survival skills if they have not already done so elsewhere (each child is assessed at the beginning of lessons). Once survival skills are established, we progress to formal swim skills such as:
⢠Streamlining and gliding
⢠Back and front kicking with proper breathing
⢠Backstroke and freestyle
Once swimmers can complete 25 meters (one pool length) using backstroke, freestyle, and a kickboard, we can discuss transitioning to the Gators Swim Team if you feel they are ready.
Gators Swim Team
Joining the Gators Swim Team is a fantastic way to continue swim development. Practices are held in the same location, allowing families to easily observe progress.
I look forward to working with you and your children. Parents play a vital role in swim lessons by being nearby, taking photos or videos at appropriate times, and receiving real-time feedback throughout lessons.
About Danielle
I have been teaching swim lessons for almost 10 years, and it is truly my passion. I feel incredibly lucky to do what I love for a living and to help children gain confidence, safety, and joy in the water.
I am certified through the United States Swim Association and hold my CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers certification through the American Red Cross.
I am also a proud mom of three boys, and I have worked with children throughout both my âyoungerâ and âolderâ adult life. Teaching childrenâespecially in the waterâhas always been where my heart is, and I bring both professional experience and a parentâs understanding to every lesson.
I look forward to working with your family and being part of your childâs swimming journey.
Warmly,
Danielle
About Melissa
My name is Melissa Sullivan and I have been swimming and competing on swim teams since the age of five and currently swim with the Gators Masters Swim Team. In addition to my swimming background, I have been a registered nurse for over 20 years. I earned my Masterâs degree in Nursing in 2020 and currently work as a Professor and Clinical Instructor.
This is my first year training and teaching swim lessons with Gators Swim School, and I am excited to work with this age group. I am also a parent of two children, ages 8 and 11, who both swim on the Gators swim team, which gives me a parentâs perspective on encouraging and effective instruction.
I have always loved swimming and am thrilled to have the opportunity to help children learn this essential life skill. I believe that learning to swim is not only empowering, but a critical safety skill, and I look forward to supporting each swimmer as they grow in confidence and ability.
