“Keep your eyes in the boat.”
It’s a phrase you’ll hear often at the United States Naval Academy, and the meaning is simple: don’t get distracted by everything happening around you. Focus on your job. Focus on the next task. Focus on what you can control.
This week, that message carries a little extra meaning for our family as Coach Gage attends Summer Seminar at the Academy. Whether that becomes part of his future or not, it’s a lesson that applies to all of us.
In the gym, at school, at work, and in life, it’s easy to spend time comparing ourselves to others or worrying about things outside our control. The better approach? Put your head down, do the work, trust the process, and keep moving forward.
So whatever challenge you’re facing this week—a tough workout, a goal you’ve been putting off, or simply navigating a busy season—keep your eyes in the boat.
One stroke at a time. One step at a time. One day at a time. ⚓️💪🏼
