Cave Spring Baptist Church Upward Basketball and Cheerleading

Upward registration is now open and we are looking forward to a great 2026 season at Cave Spring Baptist Church! We are committed to building teams based solely on evaluation scores and practice night exclusions. In order achieve this goal, we will not accommodate friend or coach requests this season. However, we will continue to prioritize siblings practicing on the same night and to the extent possible (depending on their grade) at the same time.

NOTE: that we have changed the age group to K-6th grade and practice nights are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. In an effort to serve families more effectively, we have made the decision to set participation limits. We encourage you to register early as space is limited.

Following are league details:

• Age: Kindergarten/5 years old (MUST be 5 years old by September 30, 2025) through 6th grade.

• Practice: Starts January 5. Teams will be assigned one night per week to practice for one hour: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.

• Cost: $95.00 per player. Note: if cost is an issue, please call the church office at 540-989-6136. We do not want the cost to be prohibitive to your child’s participation and will do our best to work with you.

• Registration: Closes on Tuesday, November 18 at 8pm. Space is limited so we encourage you to register early. If your child’s age group is full, your child’s name will be added to the wait list.

• Games: Start January 16-17 and end March 6-7 (8 games); 5-6th grade teams play on Friday nights and K-4th grade teams play on Saturdays.

• Pre-Season Evaluation: Attending ONE of these evaluations is mandatory for basketball participants, as it allows us to size each player for their uniforms and assess what team would be most suitable for each player. Cheer participants are not required to come to an evaluation.

Thursday, November 13 from 6–8pm
Saturday, November 15 from 9am-11pm
Tuesday, November 18 from 6-8pm
• Facility Location: Evaluations, practices, and games will be held in the gym at Cave Spring Baptist Church (4873 Brambleton Ave, Roanoke, VA 24018).

• Preferences: Once teams are established, we cannot move players unless there is a conflict with work schedules or the practice night exclusion.

• Volunteer: We always need coaches, assistant coaches, and referees. Coaching and refereeing is a great way for parents, family members, and students 7th grade and above to serve in Upward. We provide training for coaches and referees to help make sure you have a successful and memorable experience. If you are able to help in this capacity, please complete the volunteer registration. If you prefer to assistant coach, please indicate that in the comments section but sign up as a coach.

Due to the installation of new flooring, we have made the decision to cancel Upward evaluations for tomorrow Nov. 9, for ALL age groups. We made this decision out of an abundance of caution and apologize for this last minute notice.

Please note we have added two additional days for evaluations. We Please make every effort to attend one of these evaluations and let us :

Monday, Nov. 11: 6-8pm (K-4th grade)

Tuesday, Nov. 12: 6-8pm (K-4th grade); 7-8pm (5th-8th grade)

Thursday, Nov. 14: 6-8pm (K-4th grade)

Saturday, Nov. 16: 9-11am (5th-7th grade)

Please let us know if none of these dates work for your schedule.
