Discover why Virginia is Horse County:
Liberty Hall’s Equestrian Foundation Program is designed for people who want a genuine introduction to horses, horsemanship, and the traditions of Virginia horse country.
We offer a structured training program which will develop practical skills, knowledge and confidence. Our goal is to train students to become capable enough to participate in the equestrian community with more than just a passive interest.
Whether your goal is ownership, pleasure, competition, or just a desire to experience the equestrian tradition at deeper level; every true horseman begins with the same foundation.
Liberty Hall has experienced instructors capable of helping you build a customized experience specific for your goals. Farm and equestrian program consulting, fitness and nutritional for the rider, finding and training a horse that best fits your needs and capabilities.
Note - The term horseman is used in the traditional sense. It is not a description of limited to gender or age, but is instead a recognition of skill. A horseman is someone who has earned knowledge, demonstrates sound judgment, and has proven capability in the craft.
A horseman is not someone that has had a fully tacked and trained horse delivered to them to perch upon for a singular experience.
Level I: Foundations of Horsemanship
1/2 week program | $800
This intensive introductory program is designed to take someone with little or no horse experience and develop them into a capable novice horseman.
Five private sessions taken in a 1 or 2 week time frame. We have availability to fit most schedules with morning, afternoon and evening appointments.
Participants learn the practical skills that are applicable for any discipline:
Safely approaching and catching a horse on the field
Leading and handling horses correctly
Grooming and basic horse care
Saddling and bridling
Mounting and dismounting safely
Riding at the walk and beginning trot
Basic horse behavior and safety
Proper use of tack and equipment
More importantly, students learn the small details that separate familiarity from competence.
You will learn how to properly hold a lead rope, how to tie a horse correctly, check your tack before every ride, how to read a horse's attitude and attention, and how to move around horses safely and confidently. These are all the basics to understand the “Why” of horses so that you can learn the “How” in the next level.
This program is ideal for adults and youth in good physical condition who want a real understanding of horses rather than a brief introduction. It is designed for people who are curious, engaged, and willing to learn—not simply be entertained.
Level II: Riding with Intention
2/4 week program | $1,200
Private and group sessions designed to be completed over a two to four week period.
*Can be condensed into shorter period for motivated students willing to come everyday. Prefect for a travel to train experience.

By the conclusion of the program, participants possess the skills necessary to choose the it next chapter in Equestrian Sport including:
Polo
Foxhunting
Trail riding

Ring Competition
Program Philosophy
Horsemanship is not built on lessons. Competence comes through repetition, progression, and purposeful instruction. For that reason, every student follows a structured pathway designed to create measurable growth and lasting skills.
Our Objective
Build admirers into riders. Riders into horsemen. Horseman into owners. Owners into makers.
Our Mission
The rolling hills, open pastures, and green landscapes of Virginia horse country cannot preserve themselves for beauty or pleasure alone.
Land remains open when it remains useful. Traditions survive when people continue to practice them. Fields stay green when there is a reason for them to be green.
LH does not offer riding lessons. Instead we offer a path to understanding Virginia, the sight to see the value the traditions that sustains them.
Creating a desire to contribute to the communities that sustains working farms, open land, and equestrian culture.
