What an incredible milestone for the California Surf 16A team! Taking home the Silver Plate in your very first year as a club is a massive statement. Overcoming adversity to make it to the CAHA State Championship final in San Jose really speaks to the grit and character of the players.

That "long journey" through the season clearly forged something special in those athletes. Overcoming up and downs of the season , finishing as a state finalist is a lifetime memory that the families and the entire Surf Hockey community should be incredibly proud of. It sounds like the foundation for a very bright future for the club.

Congratulations to all the players and families involved in this historic first season!

UNITED STATES Premier HOCKEY LEAGUE

The United States Premier Hockey League (USPHL) announces that San Diego Sabers joins the USPHL for the 2020-21 season under the Olympian, NHL draft pick, former AHL, Finnish and Czech pro player Tomas Kapusta. The Sabers will continue operation at the Ice-plex located in Escondido, California.
The San Diego Sabers organization is focused on and has been highly successful in players’ development and advancement. San Diego Sabers are committed to the personal growth and hockey development of players, as well as the promotion of hockey in the surrounding San Diego community. As an organization, the Sabers strive to better prepare their player for college life and a potential professional hockey career, as well as for life beyond hockey. Players from all over the world are joining Sabers to obtain the best hockey experience possible in the attractive San Diego Area known for its beaches, parks, and warm climate.
About The USPHL
The United States Premier Hockey League of 2020-2021 will be the nation’s largest amateur ice hockey league and the only league to span the continental United States and parts of Canada. The USPHL will field approximately 550 teams representing over 100 organizations comprised of 11,000 players spanning the ages of 6 through 20.
Overall, across all its divisions, the USPHL had more than 1,200 alumni playing college hockey in 2019-20 and more than 250 playing pro hockey, including in the NHL.
